About Bicycle Tour in Seychelles
Seychelles may not seem like a destination for a cycling holiday. However, there are some great places to explore for all levels of cyclists. Biking in Seychelles is mainly popular on the three largest islands: Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. One can get around most of these islands on road by bike.
La Digue Island is synonymous with cycling. There are only a few cars on the island so cycling is the main form of transport. Cycling to the renowned Anse Source D’Argent Beach in the Union Estate is a rewarding experience as the road is flat so any rider can visit by bike. The toughest climb is the hill near the south coast beaches such as Anse Cocos, Petite Anse, and Grand Anse. For beginners, biking around La Digue is the best option as the gradual climb is easier to ride and there are fewer vehicles. Bicycle on your own to make other exciting discoveries including rare wildlife, colonial architecture, lush vanilla plantations, and the harbor town of La Passe.
The second most populated island in Seychelles is Praslin. Bikers or cyclists encounter a lot more traffic here than in La Digue. The coastal road on Praslin, known locally as the Consolation Road, offers beautiful views. Cycling the trail through the Vallée De Mai National Park can be a memorable experience. Experienced bikers can actually do the entire loop of the Vallee De Mai and the Consolation Road.
Mahé features some scenic places to check out on a bike. Cycle through the Morne Seychellois National Park or pedal along the North Coast Road from Beau Vallon to the capital city, Victoria. The East Coast Road is shorter but, a beautiful cycle route. Bicycles are the best way to get around Alphonse Island and Desroches Island. The best time to go on a bicycle tour in Seychelles is either at sunrise or sunset.
