Park Guell in Barcelona, Spain

Guell Park in Barcelona is located alongside Sagrada Familia, and was constructed by the architect Antoni Gaudi.

It is a popular tourist attraction and an important site one should visit in Barcelona. The whole park can be regarded as a masterpiece, for it also offers a chance to cherish the breathtaking views of the city of Barcelona. Deriving its name from Count Eusebi Güell who hired Gaudi to create a miniature city, a visit to this public park, composed of architectonic elements and gardens, is indeed a task for a day as there are three entrances to this park. The park may be overcrowded if one is visiting it during the season of summer.  

History of Guell Park

The construction of Guell Park started in the year 1900. When Guell acquired an area near Muntanya Pelada he decided to develop it as an estate where the high class people can stay. Guell had the idea of recreating British residential parks and so he names this place Park Guell. Gaudi ensures that the estate has enough vegetation, he maintained what was already available and then introduced Mediterranean varieties that needed very less water.

Famous Attractions of Park Guell

The Guell which was under the command of Eusebi Guell is the one which has many beautiful stone structures and fascinating buildings. The Gaudi dragon fountain can be found at the entrance of the park. It has a very natural look with its irregular shape and looks as if they are growing out of ground like tree trunks. There is a terraced area at the top of Guell Park where one gets a wonderful view of the park and also the city of Barcelona.

There is a small house in the park where Gaudi lived during some part of his life. The house has now been converted to a museum that houses the beautiful furniture he has designed. Guell Park is a beautiful location to stroll through and also helps experience the beauty of Barcelona in the best way possible. It is a must visit for all tourists travelling to the city of Barcelona.
