Best Time To Visit Spain
Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination
One of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, apart from being one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Spain has a lot to offer tourists no matter which season they visit the country in. The best time to visit Spain can be considered during the months of July and August, which are also the busiest months in terms of international travelers. However, in truth, if you are looking for the best season to visit Spain, then the season of spring and fall can be really great for visiting this beautiful country, with more than 5,000 miles of coastline. Spain, due to its high elevation, gives it extreme temperatures with sometimes freezing winters and boiling hot summers
Winter in Spain is milder than most of the other European countries. While central and northern region can get very cold, the Andalusia region, including the city of Madrid, rarely experience freezing temperatures in December in Spain. Those who are looking forward to visiting Spain in July should know that it gets really hot due to dry weather conditions.
With our comprehensive guide, let’s take a look below at the month-wise segregation in order to decide when should you visit to Spain.
March - April (9°C to 21°C)
As Spain experiences mildly warm temperature during these months, this can be one of the suitable times to visit here. And, as the season of spring approaches, here one can grab a chance to cherish the view of azure skies and blooming flowers all around, making it an alluring destination to visit to.
During the months of March and April, people can get to observe some famous festivals, like: Bullfighting and Flamenco along with Easter and Semana Santa.
May - August (14°C to 30°C)
Though, the northern part of Spain is mildly hot, the southern region experiences the scorching heat, making it the hottest season of the place. However, Spain can be the perfect getaway during this time for people who want to chill while lazing along the beaches.
On an excursion to Spain, one can observe many local festivals held in between the months of May and August, like: Pamplona Running of the Bulls, San Fermin Festival and Tomatina fight.
September - October (15°C to 28°C)
Offering an enticing view of the yellow and orange coloured leaves along with the smell of autumn air, the season of fall is the best time to visit Spain. People who love to experience a mild cold weather can also visit SPain during this time as the winter season is just round the corner.
Visit Spain during this time to enjoy the celebration of festivals, like: Flamenco, Bienal de Flamenco, and a host of film festivals that are held during this period.
Whenever you decide to visit Spain, make sure that the destinations you have on your mind are experiencing a pleasant climate. The festival season, with the Running with the Bulls Festival and the San Fermin Festival that are observed in July, and the La Tomatina Festival that occur in the month of August, can also be considered as the best time to visit Spain. There are several other events that take place around the year, attracting more and more tourists with each passing year. However, the best time to visit this country depends on which cities and locations you are looking to explore.
Climate in Spain
Summer Season in Spain
The best time to travel to Spain depends on which part of Spain you want to visit. During the summer season in Spain, which lasts from June to August, cities such as Cordoba, Malaga, Costa del Sol and Seville can be very hot. However, it would be the best time to go to Spain to explore places such as Granada and the Sierra Nevada Mountains that are much cooler during these months. Make sure you find out what the weather is likely to be at your destination, before you go. With lush greenery all around, this time can be considered the best time to visit Spain for honeymoon.
Monsoon Season in Spain
There is no rainy season as such in Spain. However, it rains quite a lot during the winter months, especially in November, which announces the onset of winters in the country. If one does not find the rains appealing, November is not the best time to visit Spain. The rains also make it quite difficult to enjoy sightseeing and doing a lot of other activities including watersports and visiting vineyards. Apart from November, it doesn’t really rain much in the country.
Winter Season in Spain
Winters in Spain last from December to mid-March. Though it gets pretty cold in the central Spain area and it may not be the best time to visit northern Spain, the seaside cities places such as Andalucía remain warm due to the sea breeze. The weather mostly remains rainy and overcast almost all through these winter months. It might not be the absolute best time to visit Spain for holiday, but it is still quite popular due to the discounts of travel packages and hotel reservations.

Trip to EuropeTrip was planned and executed nicely. There was some small hiccups but over all it was well planned. As this was our honeymoon trip we did not go for too much expoloration and did all local activities as they come and we were never disappointed. We started from Paris and stayed in hotel Louis blanc which was located across a metro station that made our commute real easy. But hotel was not good, room was very small and basic amenities were broken or really bad. But we did not pay too much attention as we were busy with Paris. But if you can avoid the hotel, please do. We moved from Paris to beautiful city of sevilla, we just loved this small city, we stayed in Catalonia Santa justa which was just marvelous. Location was really great. If you are in Spain, dont miss this historic city. From sevilla, we travelled to Barcelona, this city was so beautiful that we immediately started regretting that we have only 2 days here. We stayed in hotel miramar and it was really luxurious experience, it has a feel of 5 star hotel and really courteous staff. It can't write more about Barcelona because you have to be here to actually describe it. This is by far my second most beautiful city after new york. And I have travelled almost all the major cities in US and South Asia. And next one was the surprise which we had booked because Ibiza was too cold. And it was Tenerife, largest island of canary Island archipelago. The moment we had started seeing island from the sky till we say good bye to it, it was an experience. An inactive volcano mountain teide, in the center of island with black sand beaches. Beautiful forests and valleys with small villages at the bottom. This island has lunar landscape because of volcanic eruption and it is an experience to live. If I am going to Spain again, I am going here without fail. We spent 3 days here which was best time of the trip irrespective of hotel was not great and you had to walk 2 kms uphill to come to eat but it did not bother much. And the last lag was Madrid, the capital. By this time, we were little tired to explore a big city so we stayed low and just went few places. It was decent experience. Hotel real villa was located at the center and all the monuments and historic places were at walking distance. Best part of Spain for us were canary Island and Barcelona. Planning from travel triangle was good with no Oh-shit moments. Thank you for Tenerife. Really thank you. Note: this review has been posted via mobile, so please go past any bad line, if you don't understand then may be it is wrongly written.
Trip to EuropeWe had a Spain tour with Customiseyourtrip through traveltriangle. Great service throughout whether at planning stage, visa assistance or during the trip. The trip was thoroughly enjoyable and the team was constantly in touch with us trying to ensure a smooth, relaxed enjoyable experience. There were hiccups like flight delay and train strike but the team managed it very well. A special mention for Ina and Mamta for creating a memorable experience for us. A hot air balloon ride over Barcelona and tour of Real Alcazar & cathedral in Seville.
Trip to EuropeThanks a lot to Duniya Safari (in particular, Sidhhanth and Rituparno) for arranging our Spain trip. We really liked the provided hotels and the best part was the location which was just 5-7 mins walking from the station. This made our journey quite comforting. The cabs arranged was airport pickup/ drop were well on time and we dint face an issue there. Special morning reminders of our day-wise itinerary, by Siddhanth were quite helpful :). What could have been done better- the time slots which were taken for Royal Palace / Park Guille should have included a buffer time. If the slots would have been booked keeping into consideration of the time we will be landing, checking into the hotel and then reaching to the required destination, it would have been an ideal trip. But, needless to say we had an overall a very pleasant experience. Thanks again to the team for planning this trip. Best regards, Radhika Hotel Ayre was the best out of all :)
Trip to EuropeHad a great 10 day trip to Spain and Portugal. Timely on-trip support provided by Mr. Krishna. Overall trip plan was excellent and we had a memorable time.
Trip to EuropeWe travelled to Spain on 24th April 2018. It was 11 day trip and feedback is as follows: Trip was wonderful. Great pricing and value for money By Suntravs and Travel Triangle. Few things that can be improved upon are as follows: Issue was with VISA documentation. There were more documents needed by SPAIN VFS office than were told to us. Thankfully our travel date was far so we got re appointment with VFS with correct set of documents. VISA was then smooth. All the hotels were nice but location became an issue as our trip proceeded. Barcelona was at city centre. Valencia hotel was walkable from city centre. Seville was slightly far from city centre. Madrid was on outskirts of city which made us miss our sight seeing tour on first day and for second day as well we had to take taxi as taking Bus/Metro was not an option to reach on time. A sync up with drivers one day prior is the need of the hour, just 1 hour before the journey can be very unnerving especially if the mode of transport is train or bus and mobile data connection may or may not work in the middle of the journey. About Hotels: 1. Barcelona: Axel Hotel a. Pros: i. Great location. Very near to city Centre and from tour starting point. ii. Had tea bags and hot water provisions in room. iii. Neat and clean rooms. b. Cons: i. A gay friendly hotel, which might not be liked by Indian families. Though it’s a common culture in Spain. We absolutely had no problems. 2. Valencia: Senator Parque a. Pros: i. 20 mins walk from city Centre, which was manageable ii. Big hotel and very friendly staff. They even helped us with our locked suitcase :) iii. Neat and clean rooms. b. Cons: i. None 3. Seville : Al Andulacia a. Pros: i. Huge hotel with probably the best and biggest buffet spread. ii. Neat and clean rooms. iii. In front of Betis football stadium, in case you are a football fan. iv. Bus stop near by. v. Staff was courteous enough to shift us to bigger room since our room’s AC temperature was not up to our likes. b. Cons: i. Far off from city center from where the sight-seeing tours start. ii. No hot water and no provision for tea. Indians like us need tea in mornings iii. Few rooms have fixed AC temperatures. You cannot increase or decrease the temperature beyond certain number. 4. Madrid : Norte Occidental a. Pros: i. Bus stop right in front of hotel. ii. Metro station at 10 mins walk. iii. Neat and clean rooms. iv. A multiplex nearby for movie buffs and couple of places to eat. b. Cons: i. Very far off from city. It takes 45 mins by Metro (you have to change 2 metro to reach Sol, the city centre) and 1 hour by bus. ii. No hot water and no provision for tea. Indians like us need tea in mornings . iii. Breakfast buffet spread was not that great as compared to all the hotels where we stayed earlier.
