History Of Nuwara Eliya

Samuel Baker, the discoverer of Lake Albert and the explorer of the Nile founded the city called Little England in 1846. Due to the favorable climate, the country was a prime place for British civil servants to relax and enjoy activities such as deer hunting, fox hunting, polo, cricket and golf. Buildings such as St Andrew’s Hotel, Town Post Office, Queen’s Cottage and Grand Hotel hold features from the colonial period. The new buildings are also often built in the colonial style.

The most popular time to visit Nuwara Eliya is from March to May and August to September to witness cool climate and having fun and a crazy holiday. This is the perfect time to explore Nuwara Eliya town.
