About Lake Gregory Park in Nuwara Eliya
Located in Nuwara Eliya, Lake Gregory was constructed in the year 1873. Also known by the name Gregory Lake, it is a wetland converted into a beautiful lake. Used for recreational purposes, the lake is visited by large number of tourists every year. The lake is located in the heart of the city. History of Lake Gregory
The Gregory Lake in Sri Lanka was constructed at the time when the British Governor Sir William Gregory was in power. It was originally a wetland which was made originally for the purpose of providing electricity. Apart from this, it was also used for recreational activities and water sports. The powerstation constructed near the lake provides electricity to the town till date. You will totally experience the era as you visit the lake.
Activities in Lake Gregory
Boat Ride: It is one of the main activities to do in Lake Gregory. Tourists can take a speed-boat ride for around 20 minutes on this lake. It is a beautiful lake and one can enjoy the beauty of the place from the boat. The sights are just unbeatable and the weather of Lake Gregory will leave you mesmerized with its cool winds. One can also choose for a swan-shaped paddle boat. It will cost you around 500 rupees for 30 minutes.
Horse Ride: There is also an option of pony ride or horse ride for the travelers. Lake Gregory in Nuwara Eliya is the perfect spot for an exciting horse ride. Trotting around the lake on a pony will cost you around 300 rupees for 15 minutes.
Cycling: One can also hire a bicycle and go around the park cycling. One will definitely enjoy cycling around the park with cool winds blowing.
