Located in the Nilgiri Hils, Coonoor is a popular tourist destination in Tamil Nadu. With wonderful landscapes covered with tea estates, Coonoor is a great alternative to Ooty’s crowded attractions. The distance from Delhi to Coonoor can be traversed using different options. Here’s a closer look for those wondering how to reach Coonoor from Delhi by flight or train:

Delhi to Coonoor by Air

There is no airport in Coonoor town. The nearest airport from Coonoor is Coimbatore International Airport (CJB), which is about 70 km away. Daily flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi to Coimbatore Airport are provided by IndiGo airlines. Air India, Jet Airways, and Alliance Air run flights from Delhi to Coonoor with at least one stop-over, usually in Bangalore. It takes about 4 hours to travel from Delhi to Coonoor by flight.

After landing at the airport in Coimbatore, travellers can hire a taxi or take a toy train ride to visit Coonoor. It takes about 2 hours from Coimbatore to Coonoor via taxi.

Delhi to Coonoor by Train

There is no direct rail connectivity from Delhi to Coonoor. Travellers must switch at least one train at Coimbatore (CBE) or Mettupalayam (MTP) junctions to reach Coonoor by train. Himsagar Express and Navyug Express, both running once a week, along with Kerala Express are major trains from Delhi to Coimbatore. It takes at least 42 hours to travel to reach Coimbatore from Delhi. From Coimbatore junction, take another train or bus to reach Mettupalayam Junction from where one can board Nilgiri Mountain Railway to reach Coonoor from Coimbatore or Mettupalayam.

The distance from Delhi to Coimbatore by train is about 2,609 km and the distance from Mettupalayam to Coonoor by train is about 35 km. Make sure to book tickets from IRCTC well in advance to avoid any last-minute hassles.

Hotel Exp: Hotel exp was decent,food was good ,could do better in keeping some more options of North Indian food Had a payment issue at Hotel Adrak at Trivandrum where the payment was not marked as paid by the hotel agency we have to wait for checkout because of that,took a lot of time to resolve

it. We could have missed the sighting of the last day due to the payment issue. Cab Exp: The driver was cooperative and helped in sight seeing for the first 3 days. He started showing tantrums for the sightseeing of Trivandrum and was not ready to cover the places in our itinerary. There was a lot of miscommunication between Back2Holidays and the driver regarding the payment and itinerary discussion. When we called the agent to clarify he was not happy and we had a lot of arguments with him. Agency Exp: I would like to thank Nikita from Back2Holidays for helping us cover all the places in our itinerary. She was following up with us throughout our trip. Everything was planned according to our needs, hotels were nearby the sightseeing places. We had issues with driver and at one of the hotels,we reached out to her and she made sure our trip went according to our plan coordinated with the driver and at hotel and overall our trip was a memorable one. There can be improvements done to avoid miscommunication between the agency,driver and hotels.It creates a lot of stressful situations for the guests. Our last 2 days were a bit stressful due to that.
