The best way to travel from Mumbai to Chiang Mai is by air. Apart from that, other means of transportation take a lot of time and the cost may be high. Mumbai, the second largest city in India, is well connected to international destinations by air. The infrastructure and efficient connectivity help you easily reach Chiang Mai from Mumbai directly. By Air: A number of flights operate on a daily basis from Mumbai to Chiang Mai. Booking tickets in advance will help you save a lot on the tickets. It should also be noted that there are no direct flights from Mumbai to Chiang Mai as of now. Flights operate from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai and connect you to Chiang Mai International airport through connecting destinations and layovers. Flights usually take 8 hrs approximately to reach Chiang Mai. Flight fares vary unreasonably during the peak season. It is wiser to plan your Chiang Mai trip in advance to avoid any last-minute issues. On reaching Chiang Mai, you can take local transport for sightseeing or as deemed necessary.

By Rail: There are no direct trains from Mumbai to Chiang Mai. Mumbai does not operate trains for international destinations. The distance is huge and ideally it would not be feasible enough to reach directly via train. However, on reaching Thailand before Chiang Mai, you can take a train to the city. Every day, at least 5 trains run from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The fastest train leaves at 08:30 and completes the journey in 11 hours.An overnight train departs at 18:10 p.m. and arrives at the Chiang Mai station at 07:15.

By Road: The distance between Mumbai and Chiang Mai is 4,612.8 km which takes almost 97 hours to cover. There are no direct buses in India that operate from Mumbai to Chiang Mai. But it is always possible to take a long road trip on your own. You can either drive your own vehicle to Chiang Mai or hire a SUV for a road trip. It will definitely take up a lot of time but the drive will be an adventurous one. You will enjoy the endless landscape throughout your trip. However, if you are planning to reach Bangkok or Thailand by flight, you can reach Chiang Mai through the Deluxe buses. Also, there are tourist-oriented buses that depart from Khao San Road bus terminal.
