About Chiang Mai Attractions

Chiang Mai used to be the province of the Lanna kingdom. In the present time, it is a blissful and laid-back city ideally chosen by travelers to relax and recharge. You can either take part in a host of activities performed here to simply discover the vastness of the city. The atmosphere and ambience of the city will never disappoint you.

Chiang Mai is located 700 km (435 miles) from the north of Bangkok and outlooks a lush valley running through the banks of the Ping River. It was in the year 1296 that Chiang Mai was founded and named as the capital of the ruling Lanna Kingdom. At present, it is an example of that city where the past and present seamlessly merges into a wonderful city with modern buildings, heritage and green landscape. You might feel that Chiang Mai is a quiet city amidst the bustling capital but still be surprised by its rich tourism. The city of Chiang Mai is flecked by virgin rainforests and gurgling waterfalls along with peaceful, little villages. Chiang Mai, Thailand is also famous for its markets and distinguished elephant sanctuaries.

Chiang Mai etymologically refers to “new city”, and has been doing justice to its name since 1996. History has it that King Meng Rai founded the city as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom during this year. It was also that time when the Sukhothai Kingdom was established. As King Meng Rai himself was a religious person by nature, he supervised the construction of the city’s famous temples that still find a place here. One can experience the wonders of two worlds simultaneously in Chiang Mai - the historical and the modern. You will find pagodas and temples which are centuries-old. Chiang Mai also offers some of the best adventure activities such as trekking and rafting. You can also locate some modern convenience stores and custom-made hotels. The people of Chiang Mai are true to their culture and thus one can find a number of elephant camps around the place. Chiang Mai remains one of the most beautiful destinations in Asia. For a traveler, Chiang Mai simply has a host of experiences to offer. For a resident here, Chiang Mai is the home one returns to!

Chiang Mai is bordered by Myanmar in its north. The Shan state of Myanmar is actually the border state of Chiang Mai in Thailand. The interesting thing is cross-border trade takes place here between the Kew Pha Wok checkpoint and the Ban Lak Taeng checkpoint. These places are also major tourist sites. On its South, Chiang Mai is engulfed by Amphoe Sam Ngao, Amphoe Tha Song Yang of Tak Province and Amphoe Mae Ramad. Some of the major attractions here are - Sam Ngao Cliff, Bhumibol Dam, Mae Kasa Waterfall, and Thee Mo Bo Waterfall. On its east, lie the provinces of Amphoe Mae Suai, Amphoe Mae Fah Luang, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Rai and Amphoe Wiang Pa Pao of Chiang Rai. Chiang Mai borders its west with Amphoe Mueang Mae Hong Son, Amphoe Pai, Amphoe Mae La Noi, Amphoe Mae Sariang, Amphoe Khun Yuam, and Amphoe Sob Moei of Mae Hong Son Province.

Sumukh travel did a great job in planning the trip. Dipika was very prompt in answering/resolving the queries. Local agent and Drivers were also good. Although, drivers didn't knew English and but were very friendly. Casa Del M hotel was clean and staffs were friendly. Only thing I didn't like was Icheck inn hotel in Krabi, Reception lady was rude, as there was no staff and lift I had to carry the luggage to 3rd floor in the narrow stairs.

Emailshishir's 6 days trip to Chiang Mai

The overall thailand experience was okay, but few things made our travel a bit uncomfortable like, after travelling for total 2 hours by road and 5 hours by air - total 8 hours, we reached RAMADA Bangkok early morning and we requested for early check in but the hotel charged us hefty amount for early check and they were not ready to adjust few hours even after our request. We tried to reach the travel triangle staff but they said it depends on Hotel, at last we had to pay from our pocket. Another bitter experience was, our return flight was rescheduled to next day, we wanted to extend our stay but again traveltriangle replied by saying that you will have to book it from your pocket, i would like to say that after spending so much of money already, why do we again need to pay for small small things which Traveltriangle can easily manage. Also the complimentary meals given to us were so average in terms of food taste, variety, and ambience. There were many better options that they could have given to us.

Poorly managed by the travel agent. Things that were promised were not given. Poor communication through out. Was unable to contact them during the trip which made everything very frustrating. Rates were revised at the last moment citing very poor reasons. Overall highly disappointed with arrangements. Support from travel triangle was also not upto the mark. Travel consultant hardly replied back on chats and calls.

I would highly recommend Travel Triangle and specially Kingdom Of Holidays for their extensive support and guidance whenever required. First of all we were quite doubtful about the trip because of Corona outbreak but the agency assured us the country is safe and they will be providing all support to make our trip secure and memorable. They kept every single word they promised. I would like to highly appreciate Mr. Rishi and his team for being always supportive and professional in providing the prompt services with great response starting from Visa on arrival till last day of the trip. We got such promising treatment that we didn't even feel that we are in a different country.
