About Lake Tekapo: rated 4.1/5 (based on 1202 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹139,999/-

Lake Tekapo

The town, Lake Tekapo (the name is similar to the lake) is on the southern tip of the lake, and has some of the most splendid and sweeping views imaginable. The lake is present in Mackenzie District on the southern island of New Zealand. A turquoise lake amid the snow-clad mountains, Lake Tekapo sparkles beneath the blue sky. It is often a magical experience to see a line-up of mountains reflecting on its waters. Its rock floor is a specialty as the glaciers roll down grinding the rock particles and depositing them on the lake’s floor.

The splendid view of the lake and skiing opportunities on the mountains is worth the visit if you book Lake Tekapo packages. Therefore, often tourists who are traveling from Christchurch to Mount Cook make it a base station on the route.

How To Reach

By Road

Several bus services that travel to Tekapo are available from Christchurch Airport, Queenstown or Wanaka and Christchurch. It is a three hours journey from Christchurch airport to Lake Tekapo. The distance for a road trip is 1200 km.

By Air

The nearest airport to reach Lake Tekapo is Christchurch airport. If you are traveling from the cities of Australia or other countries, you can fly to Christchurch airport.

By Train

Best Time To Visit

Lake Tekapo during winter months (mid-November to late December)

You can visit Lake Tekapo in the winter months when the icy-blue water projects a strikingly different image compared to the snow-capped mountains. It is when the nearby ski fields remain busy and you can be a part of thrilling adventures down the snowy terrain.

The place as a part of Lake Tekapo packages offers many snow activities and you can have good fun out there. However, in case you are there for a relaxing trip, viewing the perfect natural and scenic beauty can keep you occupied as well.

Lake Tekapo during summers

If you have to consider the aesthetics of the place, then summers are no less. The summers enliven the lake, as the wildflowers add to the beauty. You can have a swim in the pristine lake. These aspects make it a perfect visit even for the summer holidays.

Tekapo has many summer activities for its visitors, so you can also look out for a trip during the summer holidays.

Shobhit's 4 days trip to Ladakh

My overall experience was goood with kailash expedition and his team. They really worked hard to maintain services for clients. All the best for future. And when i will come back to ladakh definitely preferred kailash expedition. Best memories are so many like drive on frozen pangong lake, late evening visit to hunder sand dune, milkyway galaxy watching at midnight and one worst but ultimate experience was 4 am morning awaking with driver to help him to de-freeze fuel at minus 22 at tangtse but when de-freezing happened battery was totally discharged, then i went to powerhouse to charge battery and due to which we were started our journey with 3 hrs delay. And i really appreciate hardwork of driver mr. Lobzang.

Hasiven's 6 days trip to Sikkim - Gangtok - Darjeeling

The quote they showed was lower compared to others. However there is always a catch and is in the fine print. They have not included all the places to visit in Pelling. To visit the other places we had to pay extra including the parking fee. And on the day of transfer from Pelling to gangtok they mentioned only transfer. We went to Ravangla Buddha Park and almost wanted to go to namchi. both of which fall on route from Gangtok to Pelling, Again in Gangtok half day trip to Tsongmo Lake and rest of the day left idle. To visit rest of places, we had to pay extra. Such finer details which are most important were not communicated to us. THE BEST PART WAS THE DRIVER- CHANDAN- FULL CREDIT TO HIM FOR SHOWING US ALL THE PLACES AND HE HAD GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF SIKKIM TOURISM. THE RATING 5/10 IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR CHANDAN ONLY. THE WORST PART MAYEE- TOUR COORDINATOR AND DEVLINA BOOKING AGENT. Both at Pelling and Gangtok they have not made any reservation and no bookings were made in our name. And we had to wait in freezing temperatures while Hotel reservations were being confirmed. Each time for 15-20 minutes, before i had to call Devlina again and point her about the lapses in service. Luckily at Kalimpong we had a reservation in our name- This after a stern talk to Devlina. Coming to Mayee- she was to coordinate with us by 10 pm the day before (if im not wrong about the timings) about the next day schedule including the timings of check out from hotel. only on first day and the next i got updates. Rest of the times we had to communicate with CHANDAN and get the timings. Again full credit to CHANDAN for taking good care of us for the entire trip. But that should not cover up the lapses on part of tour coordinator- whose job was to communicate with the guests, which she failed to do so and I believe she was the one supposed to confirm room bookings before we arrived at the destination. That to this being off season and in Pelling, we were among the 2 families staying at the hotel. In Gangtok there were 3 other families staying in the entire hotel. In Kalimpong we were the only guests staying in Hotel- Such low and off season also we were made to wait for room reservation. NOT ACCEPTABLE. But the hotels provided were good and met the needs of our travel. NB: i have seen some reviews where one particular guest was hurled abuses (Reason - what ever it may be) DO NOT do this with me for speaking up the truth honestly.

Cutesam's 6 days trip to Sikkim - Gangtok - Darjeeling

Had a nice time experiencing the splendid beauty of Gangtok. Except the few kinks most of the trip went smoothly. Mostly due to bad weather the arrangement of an alternative itinerary was an issue with the travel agency. Hotels were good. Especially Hotel aurora in gangtok and the staff there were very friendly and supportive providing with a homely atmosphere. Hotel katau road house at lachung was good too and the staff were very cordial. The hotel at Darjeeling The silver Star was good however the rooms were small. Food was good. The hotel at Siliguri the summit embassy felt pathetic to end the trip especially after the previously good experiences with the hotel and food. The cab drivers were mostly good to deal with except a few time lapses.Special mention to Rupesh,Dinesh and Taraman! As regarding the value for money,Overall we felt the trip was quoted overly especially for the off season time because the yumthang valley was closed and it was still incorporated in our itinerary. The snow fall at lachung happened to be the best thing. Likewise the tsomgo lake though frozen provided a nice experience.
