History about Auckland Zoo

The beautiful Auckland Zoo opened in the year 1922. In the earlier phases, the zoo experienced difficulties due to animal health issues. These elements were taken care of with time and by 1930, the zoo had a sizeable collection of animals. A zoological society was formed as well to upkeep the functioning of the zoo and taking care of animals’ health. The zoo attained consolidation during the time of World War II and came under the leadership of Lt. Col. Sawer. The collection of the animals expanded after the war got done with. The zoo started acquiring chimpanzees by the 1950s which ceased eventually by the year 1964. The Western Springs Park that was situated adjacent to the zoo also got acquired and became a part of the zoo in the year 1973. From the late 1980s to the present times, many exhibits were introduced and also removed from time to time. The zoo opened its largest development Te Wao Nui in the year 2011. This section exhibits New Zealand’s native flora and fauna. That’s how the zoo has evolved over the ages since the time of its inception.

Auckland Zoo Events Info

There is a lot happening at Auckland Zoo from time to time. There are events, exhibitions, and a lot of free keepers talks that happens almost daily. The Auckland Zoo is all set to celebrate Matariki  from 1 - 21 July 2019. Matariki is the M?ori name for a group of seven stars known as the Pleiades star cluster. This stargazing event will take place at the zoo with other experiences like installations, exhibits, games, and story-telling sessions. There would be snacks and drinks as well that would come under the ticket price for the event. With so much to enjoy and experience, there isn’t really a dull moment at the Auckland Zoo.

The Auckland Zoo also has a monthly photo competition by the name of Zoo Snaps that one can participate in.

Attractions of Auckland Zoo

There are about 1,400 animals of 135 different species in Auckland zoo. This zoo is a place where you can enjoy a unique and unforgettable experience. Auckland zoo animals like red panda, squirrel monkeys, Sumatran tigers, capybaras are some of the best attracts this zoo has and then attractions like taking a morning walk with two cheetahs in the zoo, feeding Galapagos tortoise lunch (under the supervision of authorities) are attracting visitors from all over the world.

Then there are safari nights, junior keeper and photography workshops which attract interested people from different places and nations.
