About Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park
Given its rich bio-diversity and rare flora and fauna, Kanha National Park attracts not just the tourists who come here to catch a glimpse of the tiger but also researchers, photographers and the wildlife enthusiasts. The barasingha, or the swamp deer, is another jewel of the national park. The park also has the distinction of saving several endangered species. It was immortalized in Rudyard Kipling’s famous work ‘The Jungle Book. ’ Kanha National Park encompasses varied topography and comprises maidans, grasslands, an extensive plateau and River Surpan that meanders through it.
Tip: The best time to the park is during the months of March and April, when it starts getting hot and the animals come out in search of water.

Things To Do

Jeep safari
The tourism area of the national park is divided into 4 zones: Kanha, Kisli, Sarai and Mukki. The Kanha zone is the most popular because of most of the wildlife is spotted here including the tigress, Machali. Early morning and late evenings jeep safaris are held to take visitors through the national park. Prior permits are needed to enter the jungle.

Elephant Safari
Elephant safari is another way to get a closer view of the jungle and its inhabitants.

Jungle walk
There are several trails within the jungle that you can explore on foot. These trails begin from Village Chhapri.

Kawardha Palace
A three hours drive from the park will take you to the Kawardha Palace which was built in the early twentieth century. The palace is now a resort and is made out of Italian marble. Within the resort, you can view Mandawa mahal, Madan manjari Mahal Krishna Temple, and Bhoremdeo Temple.

Bamni Dada
Situated very near the Kanha National Park, Bamni Dada is a famed sunset point from where you can see the sun setting into the distant horizon leaving a range of colors in the sky in its trail.

Kanha Museum
The museum is located within the park and provides interesting information about the park’s bio-diversity, animals, birds and topography.
