About Viper Island in Andaman
One of the stunning islands in the Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands, Viper island is also a famous tourist spot. Located close to Port Blair, it is easily accessible from the main city. During the British colonialism, this site was used as a jail for the convicts. The Jail is quite infamous because of the colonial atrocities committed during the time of British. The prisoners were put under harsh trail and tortured to death. Although the place has all sorts of cruelties linked to it, it still holds a place in the history of India. In the present time, it still has the ruins of the gallows on a hilltop.
Viper Island, Andaman has been named after that ship which transferred Lt. Archibald Blair to the islands of Andaman and Nicobar in the year 1789. The vessel, which was named H.M.S viper, met with an accident on its way. Its wreckage was discovered near the island.
Viper Island in Andaman is an amazingly beautiful island which is blessed with spectacular beaches, forests, cliffs and the sea surrounding them all. One of the most striking features of the place is that you will find a perfect balance of history and nature combined together in the most seamless way. There are so many charming attractions that you will find on the way to the Viper Island. For instance, the main port and the navy ships are easily visible from a distance. You can also get a vivid view of the cellular jail while crossing through a boat. It is a great place to visit for all the history enthusiasts and nature-lovers alike. People who visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands for sightseeing or just a vacation, love to visit the Viper Island for its serenity and picturesqueness.
