Having opened its doors to the public less than 10 years ago, the accumulation of these paintings and art work began in 1984 when the then-creator of the Museum made Salle Magritte one of the highlights. Housing almost 200 original Magritte works such as paintings, sculptures and drawings, this multidisciplinary museum houses the largest archive of Rene Magritte collection in the world and most of these works come from his widow Georgette Magritte and Irene Scutenaire who was his primary collector. The Museum also has on display the experiment of the artist from 1920 when he dabbled in photography and quite a few surrealist films that he made from 1956 onwards.
