About Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu

Built on the right side of the Wangchu River, the Tashichho Dzong Thimphu is the seat of the Bhutanese Government since 1952.

The fortress is also known as Thimphu Dzong, and the site has been witness to crucial moments in the history of Bhutan. The fortress was first constructed in 1216 A.D. by Lama Gyalwa Lhanangpa and rebuilt by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1641 and renamed from Dho Ngon Dzong to its current name of Tashichho Dzong. The fortress consisted of two Dzongs, the original and the lower Dzong built by Zhabdrung. After the original Dzong was destroyed by fire in 1771, everything was moved into the lower Dzong which is now known as the Tashichho Dzong fortress and has been expanded several times over the centuries.  The fortress was again damaged during the 1897 earthquake and rebuilt in 1902 and was renovated completely under King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and enlarged in a period of 5 years from 1962.

Tashichho Dzong Bhutan became the seat of the government of Bhutan and is the location of the Throne room and the offices of King of Bhutan and the secretariat. The northern part of the fortress is the central Monastic Body and the summertime residence of the Je Khenpo and the summer capital of the country. The Tashichho Dzong houses 30 temples, chapels and shrines and is the site for the Thimphu Tsechu festival. The Dzong has also hosted the National Assembly until 1993.

Naveen's 6 days trip to Thimphu

They assisted me from the get go. I travelled with a 16 month old baby, and they supported me in every step of the way. I even forgot a bag at my last hotel, they send it to me over mail. I cant thank them enough for this. Heartfelt thanks for an awesome trip to Gyam and his whole team. Regards, NaveenK and Family.

Priya's 5 days trip to Thimphu

Bhutan Trip with Bhutan Red Rhobes Destination We had a wonderful experience with Bhutan Red Rhobes Destination. Mr. Subhash planned our Bhutan trip seamlessly, and the hotel arrangements were just as we had hoped for — clean, comfortable, and well located especially at Paro. Bhutan is breathtakingly beautiful — lush, green, and peaceful with genuinely warm and kind people. The trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery is a must-do — challenging but absolutely worth it for the views and the experience. The Paro River was another highlight — so pristine and serene. A special mention to Mr. Subhash, who took the time to personally meet us at our hotel and ensured everything was in order. It was lovely meeting him in person. Highly recommended for anyone planning a trip to Bhutan!

Bobby's 4 days trip to Thimphu

I had specifically asked for 4 star properties and was quoted amount for the same. Lemon Tree thimpu is a 3 star property as per google and other major websites and Lemon Tree manager also said it is a 3 star property. Valley Travels passes it off as a 4 star Property. In Paro we were changed from Tashi Namgay, a 4 star property to tiger's Nest at the last minute. Tiger's Nest is a very old Property without proper plumbing and very far off from Airport as well as city center.

Ketan's 6 days trip to Thimphu

It was a good experience with BINC Bhutan. They provided Good hotels with upgrades wherever possible. All good places were recommended and covered. Very effective co-ordination by BINC team which made the visit very smooth and hassle-free. Some facts not in control of the agents - No role of the compulsory guide-not worth, most of the places have high entry fees (mostly not worth keeping in mind the place). Someone visited Sikkim/North-East may find Bhutan similar to that, so not all places are worth-visiting. Overall good experience. I recommend BINC.
