Best Time To Visit Leh Ladakh On A Bike Trip

There are two main roads to get to Leh, the one from Manali and the one from Srinagar. The roads from Manali open up after May, whereas the Srinagar roads are open from the mid of May. Both the routes are scenic and offer bike riders plenty of smaller halts in between, for some rest and recuperation. Since the roads stay open only from mid-May to end of October, this is the only time you can book Ladakh bike tour packages and embark on a bike trip to Ladakh. You can also choose to coincide your date of travel with the various festivals that take place in Ladakh during the summer season.

Best Routes For Leh Ladakh Bike Road Trip

There are two routes that can take you to Leh, one starts from Manali and the other one starts from Srinagar. Both routes are equally scenic and more or less cover the same distance. Let’s take a look at what is the difference between the two, before you choose your Leh Ladakh bike trip route:

Manali to Leh

The Manali to Leh route is actually the most popular route of the two. The distance covered on this route would be nearly 428 km. The route map that one would have to follow when going from Manali to Leh can differ based on what places you would want to stop at and rest. The general route for the general Leh Ladakh bike tour packages cover Rohtang Pass, Keylong, Jispa, Baralacha, Sarchu, Upshi, Karu and finally, Leh. One should know that this route is ideal for those who are used to riding on high altitude roads, since most of the terrain on this route is over 4,000 feet above sea level.

Srinagar to Leh

The Srinagar to Leh route is also becoming increasingly popular, especially among beginners and among those who like to take the time to stop and smell the flowers. The ideal Srinagar to Leh route would take you to Sonamarg, Drass, Kargil, Lamayuru and Leh. It goes without saying that when you take this route on your Leh bike trip, you give your body the chance to acclimatize to the high altitude better, especially if you haven't been to Ladakh before.

No matter which route you choose, know this: Ladakh is worth every hour you spend on your bike and every rough turn that you have to take. The beauty of this place and the thrill of riding a bike over the terrain will make you forget the tiredness of the journey.

We booked Leh Ladakh trip from travel triangle and Leh Ladakh journey is the agency. Overall trip was wonderful. Every place mentioned in iternary was covered. Our driver Joldan was friendly, he was on time for anything. He suggested many view points which are less crowded and beautiful. I strongly recommend him for any Ladakh trip as he knows every corner of Ladakh. Hotels : Leh - Hotel Ladakh place — we highly recommend this place to stay in Leh. Food is good and hospitality, rooms are excellent. Hunder - Dowa resort — stay is ok ok and food is average Pangong - High lake retreat pangong - This is most beautiful stay in the trip. Amazing view of pangong lake . Food and hospitality is excellent in such remote place. Highly recommend this for pangong stay Hanle - The Hor hotel — this stay is not good and food is very bad. This is only bad thing in overall trip. Never stay in Hanle more than a day nothing much to see. Observatory is not much useful. We can cover umlingla and return to Leh in a day. We did same it saves a day We had an amazing trip Thanks to travel triangle and Leh Ladakh journey for providing amazing experience with reasonable budget. Pangong lake and the stay in pangong lake

recently booked a Ladakh trip through Tripita, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the entire experience! From the very beginning, their team was incredibly helpful, responsive, and professional. They crafted a well-balanced itinerary that covered all the must-visit places like Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Magnetic Hill while also allowing us to soak in the peaceful beauty of the region. The accommodations were cozy and comfortable, transportation was smooth and reliable, and our local guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Tripita made sure everything ran like clockwork, which allowed us to truly relax and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes without worrying about the logistics. What really stood out was their attention to detail and personal touch – they checked in regularly to ensure we were comfortable and satisfied with the arrangements. It was a seamless, memorable experience, and I would absolutely recommend Tripita to anyone looking to explore Ladakh or any other destination. Thank you, Tripita, for an unforgettable journey!

Things To Do On A Leh Ladakh Trip By Bike

There is plenty to do in Ladakh as part of your Leh Ladakh bike tour itinerary, and the experience is only amplified when you are on a bike. Being on a bike trip to Ladakh means you can maneuver across rough roads to reach beautiful lakes and valleys, where snow has just started to melt, or you can stop on the way for a cup of tea when you spot a local food stall. Here are a few things you can do when on a bike trip to Ladakh:

1. Enjoy a Camel Safari

Ever wondered how a camel safari in the midst of a frozen desert like landscape would feel? Well, now you can find out exactly what it feels like when you visit Ladakh on your bike.

2. Spend a night stargazing at Pangong Tso

A night under an intensely starry night sky is sure to make you fall in love with nature, and of course, Ladakh. It is an overwhelming feeling to experience a silent night, lit by scores of stars, and all of it reflected in the dark waters of the lake. Most Leh Ladakh bike tour packages are sure to have this in the itinerary.

3. Visit the Siachen Base Camp

You must have heard a lot about the Siachen Base Camp, the highest battleground ever. This is your chance to find out how exactly our brave soldiers survive in the coldest weather imaginable.

4. Enjoy an evening at a local homestay

No trip is complete till you have spent some time with the locals. When on a bike trip to Ladakh, with the right package, you can get closer to the way of life that the locals lead. You can stay at a homestay, and enjoy a cultural rendezvous with the locals of Ladakh.

5. Ride the highest motorable road of the world

When you are riding across Khardung La, remember that you are riding on the highest motorable road in the entire world. Stop here for a breather and take in the beauty all around you.

Best 5 Bikes for Leh Ladakh Bike Tour

The terrain of Ladakh is rough at best, and it is crucial that you have mastery over your vehicle. Traveling on a bike is a lot more exciting as compared to a four wheeler. In fact, it is also easier to maneuver a bike than a car while on water crossings or broken roads. However, it is also a little bit less comfortable than a car where you are shielded from the vagaries of the weather outside. Your Ladakh bike trip cost would also vary based on your choice. Hence, it is very important to pick the right bike for you when on a trip to Ladakh. Any bike over 250 CC is a good choice for this trip. Let’s take a look at your best options:

1. Royal Enfield Thunderbird

Now, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird is one of the best choices when it comes to cruising and off-roading. It has comfortable seating and is ideal for long distances. With two engine options, 350 cc and 500 cc, this is your go-to bike if you cannot decide on any other.

2. Honda CBR 250

Another powerful and sturdy bike for a go at the roads of Ladakh is the CBR 250. High enough to easily tackle some of the toughest crossings, the bike is ideal if you want to go fast and don’t mind the resulting bumps.

3. Royal Enfield Himalayan

This is a bike made for the mountains. Good weight, sturdy and well-balanced, this bike is the perfect one for your Ladakh bike trip. It is also great for long rides, with comfortable seating for the rider as well as the pillion. Needless to say, it is one of the most popular bikes available at the bike rental shops for Ladakh motorcycle tours.

4. Bajaj Dominar 250

Claiming to be one of the most efficient bikes for high altitude riding, the Bajaj Dominar is also a popular choice for those looking for a comfortable bike trip to Ladakh. It has a comfortable riding position, good fuel economy and is very well balanced. Its beam type perimeter setting makes it not just more attractive but also stronger and sturdier.

5. KTM Duke 390

Comfortable at high speeds, well balanced and ideal for off-roading, the KTM Duke 390 is a very popular choice among bikers that come to Ladakh. It is also considered a great bike for beginners, despite all the features and attributes.

Make an informed choice when deciding among your leh ladakh bike rent options.
