About Diskit Monastery in Ladakh
Diskit Monastery is one of the most happening places to add to the itinerary of places to visit in Ladakh. Also known as Diskit Gompa, it is one of the largest and oldest monasteries in Ladakh. Changzeb TserabZaongpo built this place, he is very famous for being the founder of Gelukpa. The place will give you thrill with the guardian deities images, big drums along with the famous statue of Maitreya Buddha. Diskit Monastery is also called The orchard of Ladakh for the Shyok river flowing under the hills and the greens surrounding the place. A very well-known festival named Dosmoche is performed in this Monastery, also known as the scapegoat festival.
Location
Diskit Monastery is the oldest monastery in Nubra valley, situated in the Diskit village. The distance between this place to Leh is 150 km. This place is located near Hunder village road.

Diskit Monastery is one of the oldest and biggest monasteries in the whole of Leh and Ladakh. This place contains many stories of history, along with the stories of Changzeb Serab Zangpo. While climbing the rocky steps to reach the place you can witness the beautiful glimpse of Shyok River and Green foothills. Dosmoche festival is one of the prime attractions of the Diskit Monastery. You can see the famous statue of Maitreya Budhha in Diskit Monastery, Ladakh. There is also a school in this place for kids, made for teaching English and computer facilities. Visit the prayer hall to see the guardian deities’ images and huge drums.
