Camping In Ladakh

Many Chadar tents are available on the Manali Leh highway. But proper camping is available only near Sarchu. If you are going to set up your own tent, there are plenty of spaces after Rohtang in Ladakh, Srinagar to Leh highway road is usually not preferred for camping due to the army presence on the road. Nubra valley doesn’t have any camping sites but you can find free space to set up your own camp. Get advice from local people and set up the camp near any village for your safety. Camping on your own in this place is a little difficult since most of the places near the lake are occupied by the campsites.

Camping Places In Ladakh

There are so many amazing places for camping in Ladakh that offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and at the same time various thrilling activities. Some of the best camping areas in Ladakh are:

Nubra Valley: Nubra Valley is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush greenery, ruined palaces, and camping here will give you utmost pleasure. The most preferred time to camp here is from June to September.

Pangong Lake: What would be better than camping beside a mesmerizing lakeside? With a serene environment and picturesque landscape, this place is just perfect for enjoying camping.

Indus River: The beautiful scenery and the tranquil environment makes this place ideal for camping in Ladakh. You can enjoy trekking to different nearby places here.

Tso Kar Lake: Tso Kar Lake is serene, clean and offers pristine views of the surrounding landscape. This place is ideal for people who are in search of seclusion and wants to just relax their mind and soul.

Markha Valley: You get stunning views of the Zanskar Ranges and Ladakh valley while camping at this place. You can even enjoy bird watching while camping at this place.  

Things To Do In Camping

One can enjoy various adventurous sports while camping in Ladakh like parasailing, cliff jumping, body surfing, and many other adventures. At night, bonfire and barbeque can be enjoyed with other camp members. Sightseeing of nearby places like sanctuaries, waterfalls can also be enjoyed. Birdwatching is another great activity to do while camping in Ladakh.

On the other hand, camping in the Tso Moriri has many options. Due to the availability of plenty of campsites and Chadar tents in this area, camping is easy here. Get to know where to camp your own tent from the local village since most of the area around the lake is owned by the villagers. Changtang Valley from Pangong to Tso Moriri route is a highly sensitive area. Avoid camping here due to the presence of army on this route.
