About Toronto Zoo in Toronto
Toronto Zoo is one of the chief attractions of the city. There are numerous exhibits in the zoo premise, and each catering to fascinating diversity in the fauna. Animals of the Toronto Zoo in Ontario are from all the major natural spheres of the world – Africa, Indo-Pacific, America, Indo-Malaya and more.
History:
The Toronto Zoo was officially open for the public in August 1974. Animals from other countries started coming to the zoo from 1980-86. African elephants, snow leopards, Indian rhinos were added to the collection. Some rare and unique animals like the Australian native Tasmanian devil and koalas, golden monkeys and albino lions were also added. In 2006, Toronto Zoo history recorded the addition of the very popular Great Barrier Reef attraction, which is a large, seven-meter water tank housing bamboo sharks, angelfish, seahorse, damselfish and more.
Animal exhibits:
Animal exhibits that can be seen on Toronto Zoo tour are Indo-Malaya having Indian rhinos, gaurs, macaques, orangutans, mandarin ducks, Sumatran tigers, and clouded leopards; African Savannah having lions, baboons, sable antelopes, zebras, spotted hyenas, river hippopotamus, gorillas, and dwarf crocodiles. The Canadian domain has grizzly bears, Canadian bison, bald eagle, raccoons, and elks among many while the America-themed enclosures are home to Pacific octopuses, alligators, beavers, sloths, flamingos, spider monkeys, and marmosets. You can see the giant pandas in the Eurasia region. Tundra Trek is the newest addition, which showcases arctic animals like reindeer, snowy owls, polar bears, arctic foxes, and wolves.
