About the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada
Aga Khan Museum, located in the North York district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a museum for Islamic Art, Muslim Culture and Persian (Iranian) art. The Aga Khan Museum in Canada is an initiative of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, which is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The museum houses artistic pieces from the private collections of Prince and Princess Sadruddin Aga Khan, the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London and showcases the intellectual as well as scientific contributions of such pieces to the Muslim society and civilizations.
History
In the year of 1966, Aga Khan purchased a property from the Shell Corporation, namely 77 Wynford Drive. Furthermore, in 2002, Aga Khan also purchased the adjacent property which was Bata Shoes Head Office. Later in that year, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) announced the plan for establishing Aga Khan Museum, Ismaili Centre and Park on the site. The Bata Head office was demolished to make way for the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada.
