About St Lawrence Market in Toronto
St Lawrence Market is one of the major public market buildings in Toronto, Canada. This market is located in the southwest corner of Front and Lower Jarvis Street and has two main floors. St Lawrence Market in Ontario has the upper floor of the building dedicated to farmers only and has about 50 vendors for vegetables, fruits, etc. St Lawrence Antique Market in Toronto, as well as the other areas of the market, are served by Wireless Toronto’s Wi-Fi connectivity. The market has three sections, the South Market, the North Market, and the Antique market.
History
St Lawrence Market history is quite deep-rooted. The building of the market, at one time, during the time between 1845 and 1899, used to be a permanent city hall and jail-house. In 1899, the City of Toronto decided to move out of this building and to move their operations to Queen and Bay Streets. During this time a market commission suggested better use of the now vacant city hall. Certain things, such as the side swings, cupola, etc. were demolished to make way for the building that we now know as St Lawrence Market.
Attractions
St Lawrence Market is known for being one of the most primary markets in the area and is said to house various things apart from selling fruits and vegetables. With Colborne Lane, Hiro and Origin offer visitors an amazing way to fill their stomachs. Other than this, the cobblestone markets offer an eerie old touch to the seemingly modern markets. Bloor-Yorkville, Distillery District, Soma, and other places are extremely famous. Furthermore, St Lawrence Market food is just as famous as the other shops here.
