About Bangla Sahib Gurudwara In New Delhi

Bangla Sahib Gurudwara is one of the privileged religious monuments which is not only revered by the Sikh community but also by people of different faiths. Located on Ashok Road in close proximity to Connaught Place, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara is easily accessible for tourists who come here to seek solace.

History of Bangla Sahib Gurudwara

Bangla Sahib Gurudwara history traces back to the 17th century. During that time, the gurdwara was the palace of Raja Jai Singh. It is believed that in the year 1664 when smallpox broke out, Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji, the eighth Sikh Guru, who came to visit the King offered to heal the people. He did this by distributing water to the victims from the tank. That water tank exists till date inside the gurdwara. It is believed to possess medicinal values. The Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, was a resident at the bungalow in the year 1664. In the very same year, smallpox broke out as an epidemic. This was a crucial time when Guru Har Krishan volunteered to save the people from suffering. He provided them with aid and water freshly drawn from the well. But he contracted the disease and eventually passed away on 30 March 1664. Later, a small tank was built over the well by Raja Jai Singh . The water is believed to have healing properties and is consumed by every believer of the religion

Bangla Sahib Gurudwara Delhi premises has the main prayer hall, a library, the water tank in the middle, a hospital, a museum, an art gallery, and a school. Langar is served in the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara to everyone, irrespective of religion. Gurusikhs inside the Gurudwara prepares the food for the langars. Volunteers are always welcome to come and help in serving the food.

At night, the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara looks really beautiful even from a distance. It is a must visit for tourists.

Structure of Bangla Sahib Gurudwara

Located in close proximity to Connaught Place in New Delhi on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara is immediately recognised by the golden, shiny dome along with the tall flagpole known as Nishan Sahib. It is one of the most impressive structures in New Delhi. It can be easily viewed from the main entrance. It has a big pool within its complex and the whole thing is known as Sarovar.

Vmldas's 5 days trip to Delhi

I intentionally made a decision to take tour with Back to Holidays though I knew that I’m paying way more because I’m taking my mother with me. The coordinator Homendra is very good in assisting us but the cab driver who was rude and tried to skip a lot of places. The hotel SunStar in Delhi was pret
ty decent. There was a hot water problem and when contacted the receptionist, he said we will have to managed for a day with normal water which was very cold in Feb. They did not provide us welcome drink also. The Regal Vista hotel in Agra was good enough. Driver kept trying to make us to take guide in every place to get him a commission. The very last day, for the drop to airport, the driver himself arranged a local taxi which was in pathetic condition and the taxi driver was also rude in communicating with us.

Many places, we had to skip because of his inefficient knowledge. In both cases, drivers were unaware of our date & day of our arrival. Agra hotel
