About India Gate In New Delhi

Located in Rajpath, India Gate is one of the most prestigious monuments built-in memory of the India officers who were brutally murdered in the North West province during the first World War. India Gate New Delhi is situated at the heart of the capital city. It is hardly 2.3 km from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President of India’s residence, which is on the extreme east of the sacramental boulevard Rajpath.

History of India Gate

The India Gate was initially known as the All India War Memorial. It was constructed in the memory of the 82,000 soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Empire in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. These brave soldiers were an integral part of the Undivided Indian Army. The structure was undertaken as part of the Imperial War Graves Commission (IWGC) in the year 1917 in an initiative started by the British Imperial Mandate. Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone on 10 February 1921, where members of the Indian Army attended the memorial ceremony. The project was completed in 1931 and was inaugurated on February 12, 1931. The then Viceroy, Lord Irwin inaugurated the structure. It is not only a war memorial but also a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage.

The Architecture of India Gate

The architect of India Gate is late Edwin Lutyens who laid the founding stone of the memorial. The marvelous stone memorial is 42 meters high and pays homage to the 90,000 Indian Army Bravehearts who died fighting for the country in the first World War and the Afghan Conquest of 1919. The whole structure is built up of sandstone and the height of the curve is 136 inches and 87.6 inches respectively. India Gate is considered the main entryway which was developed in New Delhi. The dividers of the memorial have the names of the officers engraved on them. Besides the dividers, an interminable fire burns in honor of the Amar Jawan called as the Amar Jawan Jyoti. He is also credited with the designs of sixty-six war memorials in Europe. The design of India Gate’s arch is a masterpiece which is also similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. India Gate is located in the middle of a hexagonal complex. It has a diameter of 625m and occupies a total area of 360,000 sq meters. Height of India Gate is 42 m and width is 9.1m. The building is made up of red and yellow sandstones. The structure is erected on a flat base and rises in asymmetrical steps. On a closer look at the India Gate, you will be able to notice the features distinctly.

The arch invites hundreds of national and international tourists who flock here every day to witness the inextinguishable fire of patriotism and appreciate the memorial marvel. One can easily spot endless vendors buzzing around the memorial arch to boost their business. Find an opportunity to try the local street food available in a variety. During the late evening, a few India Gate events take place such as the vibrant light show lighting up the place dramatically.

Prosenjit's 5 days trip to Delhi

The Hotel (Sita International) which was booked for us in Delhi was not at all Good., simply pathetic. So, it's strictly recommended not to visit or book any room at Sita International in New Delhi (Near to New Delhi Railway Station). The hotel was booked by the travel agency & the name of the Hotel
is Sita International. But there is no sign of international standards & quality of that Hotel. They're using that "International" tag only for business that's it. The "deluxe room" they provided to us (Me, my wife & my 5-year-old son) is a remarkably simple ordinary one- or two-star category hotel room. The blanket they provided to us was torn. For reference please I've attached pictures of that blanket. The button under the shower in the bathroom was broken. Now after sharing all the information in reception, the hotel people behaved very casually & asked me to adjust. I informed my travel agent (Back to Holiday) regarding the issue, and my travel agent confirmed that in the evening they'll change my room but after returning from sightseeing the hotel said, "Room change is not possible because all rooms are booked". So, this is the situation I faced during my travel on the very first day (14.10.24). And in the morning The Hotel owner talked with me on the phone & told me that I made a quite simple issue into a big issue. So after paying advance to the travel agency, I faced this kind of situation. Last but not least, in the morning I found RAT in that room. And they're called it's an International Hotel. So strictly & Strictly recommended before booking anything think twice. Yes, after that remaining two Hotels are good (Gurukripa @ Mathura and Royal View @ Jaipur) & as per the standard, especially the last one (Royal View at Jaipur- 3-star category Hotel) .... Now regarding Cab. The Cab driver has a huge setting with all the guides in each & everywhere (Agra, Mathura, Jaipur) .... Directly & indirectly, he forced us to hire a guide so that he could earn a commission. And you'll not deny it because, in the middle of the tour, it's very risky & not at all safe. The driver has a very good local connection & I was traveling with my wife & my 5-year-old son. If I refused to hire a guide, he could have done anything locally because of his local connection & we're very new in that area. When at Jaipur we told that driver we don't require any guide he told me during travel maybe we'll face problems. Now in that situation what do you do? So as per his recommendation, we're forced to hire a guide as per the driver's choice, and we paid him Rs. 800 as decided by the driver (The normal government guide charge is Rs. 400).... So, if you'll travel along with your family (Like wife & son) you've got to accept all the terms & conditions of the driver because he has a strong local connection & you don't have that connection. Not only that, the driver will take you to some local shops where he has a good connection & if you buy something from that shop the driver will get a commission. Even on this trip, our driver took some local shops in Agra where he has a commission-based connection. Otherwise, he was not interested in taking you to some local shops where he'd not get any commission.

**Trip Review: A Wonderful Delhi Experience Arranged by Our Travel Agent** My recent trip to Delhi, arranged by a travel agent, was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, every detail was meticulously planned, making the trip smooth and enjoyable. The itiner
ary was well-organized, covering both the iconic landmarks and hidden gems of Delhi. Our visit started with the stunning Red Fort, where the grandeur of Mughal architecture left us in awe. This was followed by a trip to Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques, offering a breathtaking view of Old Delhi. We also visited India Gate, a significant war memorial, and Rashtrapati Bhavan, giving us a glimpse of Delhi's colonial heritage. Our agent, Nidhi Chaudhary was knowledgeable and friendly, explaining of each site. The accommodations chosen for us were top-notch. We stayed at a centrally located hotel, which was clean, comfortable, and provided excellent service. Geyser is not working in hotel room amer valley in jaipur, but its good that they have arranged the alternative electricity heater, make sure this won't be frequent scenario's. Coming to driver he is a good person with polite behaviour but coming to work level he needs to improve he is not sure of
the routes which caused a lot of delay sometimes , it would be great if you can arrange driver with good knowledge on routes for respective trip plan. Which saves both driver and our time instead of leading to wrong route.
