Agora In Athens

The ancient Agora of Athens is a prime example of the Greek agora and was an incredibly important place with regards to life in ancient Athens. The Agora in ancient Greece, especially the one in the city of Athens, was the center of everything; from market to elections to policy making to upholding justice. The agora was surrounded by monuments and buildings necessary to run the Athenian government. For 5000 years, the agora had always been occupied be it by commercial buildings, residential buildings, monuments or public and government buildings.

The Agora of Athens Greece went through several cycles of construction, destruction and rebuilding and remodeling. The agora hosted merchants, craftsmen, philosophers debating and propagating wisdom, policy makers and artists. After being destroyed in the Slavic invasion of 580 A.D., the place was abandoned before being redeveloped as a residential area during the Byzantine Empire up until 1834. The historical significance of the Agora is immense and is a must visit place for the ancient history enthusiasts.
