History of Somnath
Somnath is the site of temples of Lord Shiva. The temples were sacked by the Turkish Muslim invader Mahmud of Ghazni in 1024-25 CE. Reconstructed In 1169, it was destroyed again in the final Muslim invasions of the late 13 century. Subsequently rebuilt in 1951.
According to the Indian epic Mahabharata, Somnath was the scene of the internecine massacre of the Yadava clan and of the subsequent death of Lord Krishna.
Recent excavations there have revealed a settlement dating from about 1500 BCE.

Laxmi Narayan Temple
Laxmi Narayan is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu for whom the temple is dedicated. It reflects modern architectural designs, this temple is famous for the carving on its 18 pillars which have the sacred message of Krishna in the form of Bhagwadita.
It is situated near Gita temple and is visited by thousands of devotees.
