It is the largest earth dam in the country, and is the starting point from where the trek to the top of Banasura Hills can be started. The trails are also home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.
2. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Covering an area of 344 sq kms, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is home to some spectacular fauna, including tigers, wild boar, Malabar giant squirrel, Nilgiri langur, otters, panther, deer, elephants and bisons. An important part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, the sanctuary comprises four primary ranges, which include Tholpetty, Muthanga, Sulthan Bathery and Kurichiat. The main vegetation here includes deciduous trees, semi-evergreen trees, teak and eucalyptus.
3. Chembra Peak
What’s Special: There is a heart shaped lake here, known as Hridayasarassu

Located near Kalpetta and Meppady, Chembra Peak is one of the highest mountains of the Western Ghats, towering at a height of more than 6,890 feet. One of the biggest attractions here is the hike that takes you to the top of the peak, although four wheel drives are also available for those not willing to hike the entire way. The picturesque views here, of the entire region, are what makes Chembra Peak such an incredible place to visit.
4. Edakkal Caves

Home to some of the most important Stone Age carvings in India, dating back to 6,000BC, the Edakkal Caves are located close to Kalpetta, on the Mysore Plateau. There are several legends that tell the story of the formation of the caves, thus also making it a sort of pilgrimage spot for locals. Discovered in the year 1890, by Fred Fawcett, the cave comprises two separate chambers and you can sight carvings of animals, humans and the objects used by humans here. Some paintings and carvings also showcase daily life scenarios such as hunting.
5. Soochipara Falls
What’s Special: One of the cleanest places in Wayanad, since no one is allowed to take in any plastic material or eatables inside.

Soochipara Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Wayanad, falling over a three tiered precipice. 6. Kanthanpara Waterfall

Kanthanpara Waterfall is one of the most popular picnic spots in Wayanad, for locals as well as tourists. Although a mere 30 feet tall, the waterfall is a beautiful sight to behold.
