About Chunchi Falls in Bangalore
Chunchi Falls are the best pick to enjoy a short break from everyday hustle and bustle. Flowing at a distance of 83 km from Bangalore, Karnataka, these falls are en route Mekedatu and Sangama. Sangama is the confluence of rivers, where tourists can enjoy walking along. Mekedatu is a rock-strewn valley, where the river flows fenced by forest. Tucked amidst the rocky terrain and forest area, Chunchi Falls in Bangalore make a gorgeous picnic spot. Falling from a height of approximately 100 feet, these falls pass through several tiers before being collected in a small puddle that creates a pleasing swimming pool with running water.
The falls flow on the banks of River Arkavati and are a sight to behold. While heading to the Chunchi Falls, Bangalore, tourists come across a watchtower. This attraction should not be missed as it presents with a bird’s eye view of the rocky area, dotted by tress, creating a visual treat.
Chunchi Falls is the best place to watch River Cauvery gushing down gracefully before she becomes wild and thunders through Mekedatu. Sangama, Mekedatu, and Chunchi Falls collectively make a great outing. Sangama, which is located 3.5 km from Mekedatu, is the confluence of River Kaveri and River Arakavathi. Kaveri River at Sangama is over 150 meters wide and flows through a narrow gorge at Mekedatu. Coracle ride at Sangama is an experience to cherish.
Mekedatu is a Kannada word that translates to ‘goat's leap’. Here, River Cauvery flows into a deep and so narrow gorge, from where a goat once leaped over it to be saved from a tiger and that is how it got its name. River flows ferociously onto the rocks, sculpting some amazing shapes.
Adventure aficionados can also trek down the rocky route at the bottom of the falls, drinking in the charm all around. Chunchi Falls is one of the famous weekend getaways around Bangalore and also among the most visited Bangalore tourist places.
