Someshwara Temple Architecture

The temple follows many of the basic components of Vijayanagara architecture. The Halasuru Someshwara Temple has a square sanctum (garbhagriha) surrounded by a narrow passageway for walking around. The sanctum is next to a closed hall (mandapa) with decorated walls. The closed mandapa is connected to a spacious open mandapa consisting of four large projecting bays between 48 pillars. The eastern gopuram (gate) has the characteristics of a well-executed, typical 16th century structure.

Visitors can also admire several notable sculptures and decorative features in the temple. An impressive pillar stands near the tall tower over the entrance gate. The tower exhibits well sculptured figures of Hindu gods and goddesses.
