How to Reach St. Mary`s Church in Gulmarg

Bus: Gulmarg town is quite well connected to most of the Jammu and Kashmir cities with bus services. State-run buses as well as private tourism luxury and/or deluxe buses are readily available to transport tourists to Gulmarg. Fares from some of the main cities of J&K are as follows:

From Srinagar: Rs 150

From Sonmarg: Rs 300

Train: The closest railway station to Gulmarg is that of Srinagar. From Srinagar railway station buses and taxies, are available for your journey till Gulmarg. Shared jeeps are also available from Srinagar to Gulmarg. Ticket fare from Batmalu Bus Station of Srinagar to Tangmarg (the village just before Gulmarg) is between Rs 45 to 55. Once in Tangmarg, you can change your vehicle for Gulmarg, which will take another 20 to 30 bucks. The distance from Tangmarg to Gulmarg is only about 13km but the road is all winding with hairpin turns that run through the pine forest. A private jeep might cost you somewhere around RS.1800.

Air: The closest airport to Gulmarg is that of Srinagar. The airport is around 50 km far from Gulmarg. You can hire a Jeep or taxi from the airport to Gulmarg, for a cost of around Rs. 1,000 to 1,500. Srinagar airport is connected well to Delhi airport and regular flights operate between these two destinations.

Once you reach Gulmarg and take a hotel for night halt, you can hire either a taxi or a jeep to do the sightseeing. Most of the places in Gulmarg (other than mountain summit) are accessible by road. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, then you can choose to visit the local places like St. Mary`s Church of Gulmarg by taking the local means of transportation. These include sledges, ponies and horses.

While there is no difficulty in reaching the St. Mary`s Church during summer time, winter time snow might pose some hindrance if your car is not adapted to snow fall drives.
