How to Reach Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad

By Rail: As in the case of air transportation, Calicut serves as the nearest point of rail transport as well, at a distance of 97 km from Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. At present there is no direct railway line to Muthanga.

By Road: The sanctuary can be easily reached by hopping into one of the buses or taxies that plies between Calicut and Muthanga. Calicut has an extremely good connectivity to all the neighboring states and districts of Kerala by all three means – road, rail and air. Hence there will be no difficulty in reaching Calicut.

Commutating inside Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary: Although jeeps are the most preferred way to commutate inside the sanctuary limits, a trek or a walk through the dense forest beauty is more preferable as it gives you a chance to spot beautiful peafowls, blabbers, cuckoo’s and woodpeckers on the way.  Also the jeep safari might give you only a glimpse or two of the extensive fauna as animals tend to get frightened and stay away from the jeeps, due to the sound the motor makes. The luckiest ones are the tourists who get into the first slot of the jeep safari, after which it is a game of luck. If commutating via jeep the best chances of spotting animals, sometimes a tiger or two is early in the morning.

Even though there a number of jeeps that operates at a very good frequency, taking a three hour trek to cover the trek is sure to be more enchanting and exciting.
