Deras Dam in Bhubaneswar, Odisha

Though this was built as a minor irrigation project and a few small canals originates from it, this also serves as a water hole for animals in the sanctuary. Deras Dam is located amidst complete serenity and offers a retreat from the hustle-bustle of city life. The surrounding area comprises of green forests, small hillocks, calm waters and narrow roads among all other nearby attractions.

Deras Dam Picnic Spot

Although small in size, Deras Dam serves as a multipurpose attraction for tourists coming here. Apart from being the main source of water for the animals in the Chandaka-Dampara Elephant Sanctuary, it also serves as a quaint picnic spot. Abundant in impressive natural beauty, this place offers breathtaking views from the cottage at the hill-top. You can also enjoy a guided safari of nearly 40 km around the dam or take a visit to the rainwater reservoir.

Access To Deras Dam

Deras Dam comes under the jurisdiction of the forest department since it is located inside the Chandaka-Dampara Elephant Sanctuary. Therefore, access to the dam is also controlled by the officials of the forest department here. Allowance of vehicles is restricted inside the area of the sanctuary. You need to walk for a few meters to reach the dam from the check post.
