About Deras Dam in Bhubaneswar

Though this was built as a minor irrigation project and a few small canals originates from it, this also serves as a water hole for animals in the sanctuary. Deras Dam is located amidst complete serenity and offers a retreat from the hustle-bustle of city life. The surrounding area comprises of green forests, small hillocks, calm waters and narrow roads among all other nearby attractions.

Deras Dam Picnic Spot

Although small in size, Deras Dam serves as a multipurpose attraction for tourists coming here. Apart from being the main source of water for the animals in the Chandaka-Dampara Elephant Sanctuary, it also serves as a quaint picnic spot. Abundant in impressive natural beauty, this place offers breathtaking views from the cottage at the hill-top. You can also enjoy a guided safari of nearly 40 km around the dam or take a visit to the rainwater reservoir.

Access To Deras Dam

Deras Dam comes under the jurisdiction of the forest department since it is located inside the Chandaka-Dampara Elephant Sanctuary. Therefore, access to the dam is also controlled by the officials of the forest department here. Allowance of vehicles is restricted inside the area of the sanctuary. You need to walk for a few meters to reach the dam from the check post.

Overall a very good and memorable trip by Inde D Voyage ! Hotels were convenient with tasty Breakfast spread ! Slight niggles were present in both hotels w.r.t the rooms but they were taken care of by the staff ! The cab driver Mr. Rakesh did his best on time-management to cover all the places per the iterinary and couple more places for our kids to play and enjoy ! Hotel at Puri (Pride Ananya) was great in every aspect. The Adventure Hotel at Bhubaneswar was good at stay but very poor in services. Even after advance intimation from our travel agent as well as from us, they didn't provide packed breakfast as we had to leave early to take a flight. Regarding transportation, driver was great with average vehicle health. All the described places were covered and enjoyed it thoroughly.

It was a great experience. The services of both the travel agent Mr. Shibhashish and driver Mr. Sujan Kumar were excellent and highly recommended. Stay at hotel pride ananya was very comfortable. An advice to anyone visiting Orissa, please stay alert for all pandit jis.. most of them want more and more money out of you and it ruins the whole experience of visiting the temples... never saw this scenario anywhere except Puri, was highly disappointed. Would request tour organizers to make people aware of the same. The only Saving grace was successful darshan of bhagwan Jagannath ji. Visit to Chandrabagha beach, konark and Jagannath temple.

I spent time observing the intricately carved stone sculptures, which depict various deities and symbolic motifs.
