About Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar
Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar is one of the most prestigious temples of Odisha. Just as the name suggests, this Hindu temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple holds immense value and has many folklores attached to it. Lingaraj Mandir is one of the most visited places in Bhubaneswar, the temple city of India. The unique architecture of this temple also draws many people to this place. The architectural style of this temple resembles the Kalinga style. This temple is considered to be a worshiping place of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The structure is made from sandstone and laterite. The height of Lingaraj Temple is 180 ft. The temple has four divisions, i.e., Garbh Griha, the Yajna Shalam, the Bhoga Mandap, and the Natya Shala.
History of Lingaraj Temple
The time of the establishment of this temple is stated to be in the era of the 11th century or 6th century. Many tales about this temple relate it to the fact that King Jajati Keshari built a shrine here. The temple is a marvelous piece of architecture. Best of all, there are a total of 150 temples surrounding the Lingaraj Temple. The reference of this temple is also stated in Brahma Puran. As per Lingaraj temple history, it is the oldest temple that is situated in the city of Bhubaneswar.
