About Amber fort, Jaipur

Perhaps the most popular of all the city’s attractions is the great palace at Amber Fort, Jaipur. Situated high on a hill and a short drive away from Jaipur is this bulwark monument, once home to the proud maharajas of the region. Even now, it is an incredibly well-maintained site with tourists from all India come to Amber Fort in Jaipur to bask and revel in its grandeur.

History of Amber Fort

Built by a series of the Rajput kings of Jaipur, this used to be the capital of their dynasty. The grand and beautiful architecture that can be observed at Amber fort is in the classical Hindu style, with giant ramparts, a number of different gates and cobbled streets on the inside. The Amer ka Kila has been declared as a World Heritage site and as such is now maintained quite well.

Architecture of Amber Fort

Made of red sandstone, Amber fort overlooks the beautiful Maota lake which was the fort’s source of water for so long. Going up the hill to the fort itself is a thoroughly enjoyable activity in good weather as the jeep rides tend to be quite fun, especially with friends and family.

Amber Fort Layout

The palace is divided into six main sections and four courtyards. Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Sheesh Mahal, and the Sukh Niwas were made for specific purposes and to carry out royal events. The main entry to the palace is through Suraj Pol while Ganesh Pol is the main entrance to visit royal quarters.

Light and Sound Shows in Amber Fort

Though just walking around this historic place can be an intense experience, there are a few activities to do here as well. The most popular of these is the famous light and sound show at Amber fort, an event that takes place every evening and tells the story of Amber Fort and the proud Rajputs in general. This is an extremely well-executed show and one of the highlights of a visit to Amber Fort.

Another highlight is the elephant rides at Amber Fort. The fort is accessible by road and one of the most popular ways to reach the top is an elephant ride. A visit to Amber Fort, Jaipur has the potential to be an informative and wonderful experience for tourists and as such, it is a must visit when traveling to Jaipur.

    • Trip to Rajasthan

On the whole , we had a great trip. Gaurav is so responsive when ever required . During our trip train got cancelled , he monitered that provided transport . He is always available for queries . Only regret is that , car AC is not working properly and driver also mostly denies to switch on AC . As it is very hot in rajasthan during morning we faced issues due to cab.

    • Trip to Rajasthan

Overall the trip was good despite the various setbacks. The worst was a non corporating driver who seemed least interested. The hotels in particular were ok barring Justa Rajputana at Udaipur which was the least hospitable and had poor services. With regards to the travel agent, the process was very least transparent and had gaps in making the customer comfortable.

    • Trip to Rajasthan

9 days trip to Rajasthan -> udaipur, jodhpur, jaisalmer, bikaner, pushkar, Ajmer and Jaipur. We were told that the driver will be familiar with all places to visit but unfortunately he had no idea about any city other than udaipur. Additionally, he did not even have a map. He was dependent on the guest to help him with directions on mobile. Because of this we wanted a lot of time figuring things out which could have otherwise been utilized for site seeing. Neither the agent nor the driver informed us about timings of important places that close as early as 4.30pm. Evenings wasted! Overall experience is that I ended up planning activities of the day instead of relaxing n enjoying the trip.
