About Bikaner in Rajasthan

Bikaner is one of the most beautiful and historically significant cities of Rajasthan. Bikaner tourism promises to offer you a host of amazing sights to see and activities to indulge in. Places such as Junagarh Fort, Karni Mata Temple Bikaner, parts of the Bikaner desert area are all popular places to explore. Our Bikaner travel guide aims to familiarize you with all the intricate nuances of the city encompassing a host of amazing sights to see and activities to indulge in. The undulating sand dunes of Bikaner will take you to a magical place, offering families, solo travelers, honeymooners and groups of friends an escape into a picturesque setting.

What to experience in Bikaner:

A Bikaner sightseeing tour as part of your Bikaner tourism package brings you face to face with magnificent forts and opulent palaces, shifting sand dunes, vibrant marketplaces, and a local cuisine to make you salivate for more. Almost all of the city is a historical site by itself, with even the plainest of haveli's and houses having ancient intricately carved jharokhas. Bikaner is famous for all of these attractions and more. The old world charm of the city will somewhat bring to life the regal era of the kings of Bikaner. When here, don’t forget to check out sites for shopping in Bikaner as well as local places to eat in Bikaner.

Best time to visit Bikaner:

The best time to visit Bikaner is during October to February, when the weather is cooler and much more pleasant than the summers. Visiting the city during the monsoon season is not a bad idea, considering the temperatures are lesser as compared to the summers, even though the humidity might be a problem. Visiting Bikaner during the summers is not advisable unless you are willing to bear the scorching desert sun. The discounts offered during the off-season here might make it worth your while though.

Things to do in Bikaner:

Your Bikaner tour should ideally include a visit and stay at the much acclaimed Thar Desert. One of the most popular Bikaner 's points of interest include a night camping under the stars with only the wind for the company is sure to be one of the most surreal experiences of your trip to Bikaner. Also, try to visit one of the local villages near the desert, to take a look at their daily way of life. It is very common to find horse-drawn carriages on the roads, along with the cars, vying for space and attention. Make sure to enjoy at least one ride in a horse-drawn carriage ride.

But tourism in Bikaner is not limited to just desert safari or visiting the opulent palaces and forts. It also offers tourists a chance to get to know the rural Rajasthan. Despite being one of the largest cities and a popular tourist destination, Bikaner still remains charmingly behind in a few modern developments. Think of Bikaner as a breath of fresh air among all the hustle bustle of the other more popular and modernized cities of Rajasthan.

When you travel to Bikaner, remember that you are visiting the city of Usta Art, which is a unique art form that involves embossed geometric and floral patterns, along with layers of gold. Try to purchase a souvenir of Usta Art to remember the city by.

Finally, on your Bikaner city tour, it would be nearly sacrilegious to not include some time devoted simply to tasting some of the most delicious and also some of the most spicy dishes of all times. Remember to pack some of the snacks to take back home.

When on your Bikaner trip, it is a must that you plan your itinerary in a way that gives you a couple of leisure days along with days of sightseeing. You can enjoy the leisure days exploring the city on your own.

The nearest airport from Bikaner, with regular flights, is located in Jodhpur, which is almost 251 kms away from the city center. If you are planning to travel by flight, then your best bet would be to disembark at Jodhpur International airport and board a bus to Bikaner. You can also opt for hiring a private taxi to get to the city. Both buses and taxis are easily available right outside the airport. It will take no more than 4 to 5 hours to get to your destination from the airport. Jodhpur International airport offers direct connectivity to Indian cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Jammu and more, apart from international destinations such as Frankfurt, Paris, London and Bangkok, etc.

By Train

Bikaner is well connected to all major cities of the country, as well as to almost all large cities of Rajasthan. Both of the stations are located within the city and lie nearly 6 kms away from the city center. Direct trains from Bikaner to cities such as Delhi, Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata and Guwahati among others are easily available. Trains such as Sampark Kranti Express and Chandigarh Express connect the larger junctions. Intercity Express and other passenger trains connect the cities in the state.

Reaching Bikaner via surface transfer is a good idea since the roads are well maintained and offer beautiful views of the desert at some points. There are plenty of bus services, including luxury buses and the state-run general buses. • Trip to Rajasthan

We didn't like our driver. He's needed underarm deodorant. We didn't ask he's religion, but it looked like he didn't like Hindus. When we were supposed to visit a Hindu temple, he just parked on the side of a highway so we could take pictures from far away. Our tour of Delhi was OK, but when we got to Agra to visit Taj Mahal, he told us that we needed a guide and it would be the same when we go to Amer Fort. He told us that the guide's services will be a minimum of 1000 rupees for the two of us. Even though it was not in our itinerary and even though we don't like guides, we just agreed to have one. He insisted that we needed one. We picked him up from the street while we were driving, which were thought was weird. He looked like a guide - dressed nice with a name tag, but we had to pay for his entrance fee. When we got inside Taj Mahal, he started to convince us to hire a photographer which went on for about five minutes. We didn't hire one. Only once he offered to take our picture. When I interrupted his story to ask questions, he told me to wait until later and my questions will be answered when he tells the rest of the story which was much much later. He was emphasizing more on what kind of rocks the buildings were made of and how the decorations on were made. We knew that he was trying to sell us something, and we were right. When we finished the tour, he said that we needed to ride a tuktuk to meet our driver because we were far from the parking lot. He made me pay for the tuktuk. Then he and the driver took us to two places where they sell the things that he emphasized from the tour. The next day when we got to Fatephur Sikri, the driver was telling us that the parking lot is far away from the entrance and we had to take a tuktuk which will cost us about 100 to120 rupees. It is true that the entrance is far, but the designated bus that takes the people to and from the entrance only cost 10 rupees each way - we found this out later. Our driver stopped the car and talked to a tuktuk driver and told us that the tuktuk driver will take us to the entrance. He didn't take us to the entrance. He called a teenage boy and told us that the boy is his brother and would take us to the entrance, but he will not ask for money. It was a long and tiring walk up a hill. When we got up to the top, he called another teenage boy which is also his brother. This other boy said that he is a student and a volunteer guide and he will not ask for money. He said that we would start from the back and pay the entrance fee after we finish the tour. He was talking us away from the attraction which made us feel uneasy. I told him that we wanted to pay right away and go through the front entrance. When we got to the entrance, there was nowhere to pay. We went in after talking our shoes off, but we kept our shoes with us. We didn't know what to do when we got inside the building. I read that we were supposed to pay 500 rupees, but the place didn't look that big. Luckily we met three European tourist that had a map of the place and told us where we were supposed to pay. I told our volunteer guide to help someone else and that we don't need him then he asked me to pay him. I didn't. We got out of the building which we found out was a mosque and walked a block to the real entrance. This attraction is worth the entrance fee. When we finished, I asked how to get to the parking lot. I was told to to bus for 10 rupees. When we got to the parking lot, we had to search for our driver. When we found him, he said that he was worried because we took too long. We didn't trust him anymore. When he dropped us off at our hotel in Jaipur, I told him that we don't want anymore guides. He was disappointed and insisted that Amer Fort is a very important place and we need a guide. We told him that we don't like guides. The next day before the tour, he told us that he would pay for the guide. We told him that we don't like guides to tell us what to do and where to go and we don't need them. We enjoyed the rest of the tour. Royal View hotel where we stayed in was very nice with a great view on the roof.

    • Trip to Rajasthan

Took a trip with traveltriangle (and DIU holidays) to Rajasthan. It was my first trip via traveltriangle based on quotes and feedback from friends. But it turn out to be not so good. Contact person from TT was not available at all, when i need to callback, it was automated system no real person. Only time i got response is the time when i paid money installment. Even automated system asked for number so that TT can callback, but not received any call. So anyone booking with TT should note that TT will NOT be there when you need. Good thing in trip was Contact person from DIU holidays, he picked phone when required and had been in kind of constant touch. You can count on them. Coming to trip itself: DRIVER was worst, his objective was just to pass the time so that he don't have to drive and find a free parking even if we have to walk long distances (parking, toll etc. was included in our price). He will say negatives things about spots that were mentioned in itinerary so that we dont visit that place and refuse slightest detour as it was not part of itinerary. first HOTEL was not so good, far far from city and not at all family environment (it was a OYO hotel, you know what goes with those). Second HOTEL was good. Best thing was Sultan resort and sand dunes. DIU had planned trip well and will definitely book with them in future.

    FAQ's of Bikaner

Read on to find out why our customers love us!

Rock climbing in Bikaner is safe only when you are with registred and expert guides who are trained enough to take tourists with them. Make sure that you choose the right guides.

Yes, ATMs are spread all over the city and finding them is easy.

In terms of clothes, if you are visiting in summer, light cottons and such are recommended. In winter, warm clothes are a good idea as it tends to get quite cold. Shoes are a necessity as there is a lot of walking to be done and similarly, sunscreen is a perennial necessity. A camera, with a cover to protect it from the desert sands,  is always a good idea to have around as there are many instantly snappable areas.

While WiFi is available at almost all central parts of the city, connectivity is sketchy at best when in the desert area. Plan accordingly.

The Camel Safari of Bikaner is a must do. Also try to attend the Camel Festival at the Junagarh Fort .
