How to Go to St Petersburg
Boarding a flight from India to Pulkovo International Airport (LED) is the best option for those wondering how to go to St. Petersburg. The city, being the old imperial capital of Russia as well as an important battlefield during the world war as Leningrad, is as well-connected with the world as Moscow. Pulkovo International Airport is connecting to India by only connecting flights. Located 23 kilometers south of St Petersburg, the airport Pulkovo serves the city on a regular basis feeding its international tourism. It is also the base of Russia’s Rossiya Airlines. In many cases, instead of taking a flight straight to St Petersburg airport, tourists from India make a stop at Moscow first and then make their way to the city.
How to Reach St Petersburg from India
The most common itinerary followed by tourists for traveling from India to St Petersburg is via Moscow or Astana. Both of these cities are inseparable when it comes to Russia tourism. From Moscow, there are many ways to reach St Petersburg easily. The most convenient mode of transport is train. Moscow to St Petersburg trains run on a regular basis throughout the day and overnight too. Other than that, there are connecting flights to St Petersburg from different cities around like Frankfurt, Dubai and of course, from Moscow.
The flight duration from India to St Petersburg is about 10 to 12 hours on average. The aerial distance from Delhi to St Petersburg is about 4,914 kilometers. During the Siege of Leningrad, vehicles had to drive over a frozen Lake Ladoga during winter to deliver supplies to the devastated city. But it takes much less effort to travel to St Petersburg at present.
There are no direct flights to St Petersburg, Russia from India. However, there are multiple connecting flights which are just as easy and convenient. As mentioned before, many tourists prefer to visit Moscow first. There are direct flights to Moscow from the Indian capital Delhi which operates twice every day of the week. Flown by Russia’s own Aeroflot, this air service provides the best flight duration – 6 hours 25 minutes. There are numerous flights every day from Moscow to St Petersburg and the time taken is only 1.5 hours. The next best option is the 8 hours 35 minutes flight from Delhi via Ashgabat by Turkmenistan Airlines. Emirates have flights via Dubai as well, and so do Qatar, Lufthansa and Swiss Air via Doha, Frankfurt, and Zurich.
It is not possible to go from India to St. Petersburg by train. But one can go from Moscow certainly. Reaching Moscow is easier than reaching St Petersburg, and from the capital city, there are multiple trains to take you to your destination. From Leningrad station in Moscow to Moskovsky station in St Petersburg runs the Sapsan train, which is the fastest and smoothest train journey one can imagine. It takes you to your destination in under four hours. If you want it to be a luxury trip, Grand Express and Red Arrow are there at your disposal.
Going to St Petersburg from India by roadway would be like taking the road less traveled. Unless people have an expedition to make, in which the road trip in itself is the objective, going by land makes no sense. There are geographically possible roads via Iran or Kazakhstan, and also via the Trans-Siberian Highway. But to implement them practically takes a lot of effort and political permissions.

Namita's 10 days trip to St PetersburgFew tips to take care while planning a trip to travel agent: 1. Check all the hotels as I got the first hotel changed and was better then the other two. 2. Check on the luggage as how much one is allowed to carry as should have been told by the travel agents if the flight inside the country will be domestic and luggage will be a problem. Had to pay 2700 rubbles extra. Then cabs booked for excursion we paid 300 rubbles for the parking which should be borne by the agents. The agents arranged the timely cabs for pick and drop. Rest all the other things has to be managed self.. I felt that arranging the trips are far better than doing through the agents.. Saint Petersburg was one of the best place to see in the entire Russia..

Priyanka's 7 days trip to St PetersburgOverall it was a good trip. Due to language issue, we were not able to interact much with Cab drivers in Moscow. Also traffic in Moscow is really bad, which was one of the pain points for us. Stay in petersburg was a memorable one. The cab driver was a Pakistani so no language issue. Though the hotel was small, but hotel staff was very friendly and cooperative. Stay in Petersburg will always be in our good books (from cab driver to hotel staff and food).
Gadi's 6 days trip to St PetersburgThe hotels selected in St. Petersburg needs to be changed.its in the centre of city, but has no elevator & rooms are on the 4 th floor.real inconvenience to tourists. The overall package value is a little high when compared to the places of visit proposed, couls have more additional fight seeing trips. indian food could have been organised / complimented atleast for one day in both the cities. Night cruise on Moscow river.
