Tourist Places In St Petersburg
For travelers and wanderers, a visit to Russia is not just any vacation – it is nothing short of an odyssey. And for those who are aware of the past of this great country, St Petersburg is as important as the capital Moscow. St Petersburg, named after its founder Peter the Great, was once the majestic capital of the imperial Tsar regime. Under House Romanov and their royal patronage, the city prospered into a medieval paradise. Even after all the revolutions, wars and sieges that followed, St Petersburg has till date held on to its magic.
White Night Festivals
The White Night Festivals are the one-of-its-kind celebration in St Petersburg of its 24-hours sunshine days. Being located too close to the arctic circle, from May to July the St Petersburg experiences this phenomenon where a muted white light lingers on much after the sun has disappeared from the sky and darkness only falls at around midnight for an hour or two. Classical opera, ballet, and music at the Mariinsky Theatre – another important place of interest in St Petersburg – are important parts of the White Nights Festival. Being able to witness this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
River and canal cruises
Neva River is the waterline that runs from Lake Ladoga in the east straight through St Petersburg to the Gulf of Finland in the west, forming many canals through the city. They serve as the veins and arteries where you can enjoy pleasant afternoon St Petersburg cruise rides. The bank of the river itself is a great sight to behold. Some of the most important buildings are located by Neva – Hermitage Museum and Winter Palace, Summer Garden and the Split of the Vasilievsky Island.
