About North Island in Seychelles
North Island is one of the 42 small and granitic inner islands of Seychelles, located 27km northwest of capital Mahe. As per the historical records, North Island, Seychelles was the first island of the country where sea explorers first set their foot on. In 1609, Captain Sharpeigh of English East India Company’s vessel Ascension wrote in his report about the giant tortoises which roamed the island freely. After changing hands multiple times over the years, it now belongs to a private eco-tourism resort. It was put largely on the map after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge honeymooned here after their 2011 royal wedding.
