About Black Parrot in Seychelles
Coracopsis barklyi also known as Seychelles Black Parrot or Praslin Parrot is a special Black parrot species which is endemic to Seychelles. This bird with dark, greyish-brown plumage overall, specifically found on the Praslin Island also happens to be the national bird of Seychelles and the centre of attention of every birdwatcher who visits this Island. In the present times, this is considered as a full species while in the past it was considered to be a subspecies of Coracopsis nigra, native species of Black Parrot from Madagascar. In the 20th century, the Seychelles Black Parrot has seen a decline in its number as a result of predation. Though the species is protected in the present times, it still faces the threat of competition and illegal persecution. It is already under the category of vulnerable species as declared by IUCN. Tourists visiting the Island make sure to be on time to watch the Praslin Black Parrot which is surely a worth experiencing aspect of their visit.
Away from the stress and noise of modern life, taking a short escape on an island and walking on the lands fringed by coconut palms in the lap of nature brings a satisfaction to one’s heart which is irreplaceable. Bird watching as a recreational activity brings immense joy to the ones who undertake this wildlife observation. On top of this, watching a bird as rare as the Praslin black parrot further adds on to the delight. A little wary in behaviour, the antics and movement of the Seychelles Black Parrot are worth being observed. Make sure to visit the breeding grounds of the Seychelles Black Parrot on the Praslin Island whenever you plan to visit Seychelles and have an experience to treasure.
