It is a great place to spend some peaceful time amidst greenery and freshness. MacRitchie Reservoir is Clementi the oldest reservoir of Singapore which was completed in the year 1868. 

Attractions of MacRitchie Reservoir

One can enjoy all sorts of recreational leisure activities at this place like treetop walk, canoeing, hiking, and kayaking. The whole aura of this place is surreal and tranquil. One can enjoy a treetop walk on the freely suspended 250m bridge connecting the two highest points of the park. There are various other hiking trails at the MacRitchie Reservoir which are full of flora and fauna. One can spot squirrels, monitor lizards, and long-tailed monkeys on the hiking trails.

The reservoir was made in order to conserve the water in Singapore after the country suffered drought conditions. Earlier, the reservoir was named as the impounding reservoir, later it was changed to MacRitchie Reservoir. The reservoir now collects rainwater and conserve it for future use. It also provides free outdoor space to the tourists and local citizens to enjoy a nature walk, adventure sports, and other outdoor activities.

One can rent for kayaks and enjoy kayaking at the reservoir. Fishing and canoeing can also be enjoyed in the reservoir. There are two dining options available within the MacRitchie Reservoir where one can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In all, MacRitchie Reservoir in Singapore is a perfect place to enjoy some outdoor recreational activities in the lap of nature and greenery.

History of MacRitchie Reservoir: Till the early 19th century, most of Singapore was covered with forest. In 1819 when Britishers established their settlement in Singapore, commercial activities started taking place and the need for freshwater started increasing. Due to this need, a major portion of the forest was cleared to make Singapore one of the important ports for trading activities. Finally, in the year 1868, the construction of MacRitchie Reservoir was completed but the installation of pumps and distribution of water only begin in 1877.
