About Sentosa Island Tour

Sentosa is a resort island based off the coast of Singapore situated just half a kilometer away from the southern coast of the main island of Singapore. The Sentosa island Singapore has a rich variety of flora and fauna native to the island and the resort was built with minimum environmental impact. The island was previously called Pulau Blakang Mati and was renamed to Sentosa in 1972 and was developed as a tourist destination. More than 20 million tourists visit the island every year.

A tour of Sentosa Island includes a visit to the Fort Siloso, a sheltered beach, the Merlion, the Resort World Sentosa and the Universal Studios theme park.

History of Sentosa Island

Its name Sentosa means "peace and tranquility" in the local Malay language, this word is derived from Sanskrit language term Santosha which translates as contentment or satisfaction. British explorers in the 19th century fortified the island as it was a strategic passage into Keppel Harbour. During the Second World War, the island was the site of a battle between Japanese and British forces. Sentosa used to be a British military base and was also used by the Japanese as a prisoner of war camp. In the 1970s, the Singapore government began developing the island as a tourist resort.

Attractions of Sentosa Island

The fourth largest island of Singapore, Sentosa has a 70% rainforest cover and over 200 thousand trees were re-planted when the Resort World Sentosa was constructed. The island also boasts of white sand beach and coral reef by its coasts. The huge number of attractions in Sentosa has been the reason for the huge number of tourists visiting the island every year. A 2-km-long stretch of sheltered beach lies on the island’s southern coast. Categorized into three sections named Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach, and Tanjong Beach. Every beach has a unique charm. While Siloso Beach is the island’s most popular beach where there visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as volleyball, canoeing, rollerblading, etc. Palawan Beach is known as the southernmost point of Asia and is a great place to enjoy local food. Finally, the crescent-shaped Tanjong Beach is located at a secluded place and Tanjong Beach Club attractions many visitors.

The climate of Sentosa remains fairly consistent throughout the year, enabling tourists to visit Sentosa attractions whenever they like. It is always mildly hot and humidity may vary according to the season. There is always a chance for rain and there are no winter winds or snow. The ideal time to visit Sentosa island attractions is from late January to early March.  April, May and June are the hottest months. If the tourists want to visit when there are least chances of raining, February, June, and January are the best possible times with February having the lowest chance of rains and November and December having the highest chance of rainfall.

Sentosa is famous among tourists because of its temperate climate and all-year-round accessibility. The warm climate is a dream for vacationing and provides a wonderful holiday experience. All Sentosa attractions are open to visitors all year round and with the sheer number of attractions, it is safe to say that Sentosa is a one of the hottest tourist destinations in Singapore.

A Sentosa island map will be of great help in trying to get around the island. The numerous attractions can be a bit overwhelming to cover without proper guidance and knowing where to. Go. An island guide can be bought or downloaded from the official website to get a thorough idea of the attractions and prioritize them according to one’s preferences. Sentosa Island tickets vary based on the place the tourists are visiting. The tickets are moderately priced and one has to pay the entry fees if one brings private or rented vehicles onto the island.

How to Reach Sentosa

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

To take a tour of Sentosa, one must visit the island through Singapore. The closest airport to Sentosa is Changi Airport in Singapore. One can book a flight to Singapore from major airports in India and take the preferred mode of transportation. There are taxis, trains and also a free shuttle bus to Sentosa connecting Changi airport Singapore to Sentosa Island.

By Train

The easiest method is to reach Changi Airport by air and take the MRT to reach the Harbourfront station. To reach Harbourfront one has to take the Green line from Tanah Merah Station. After that one needs to get down at Outram Park and take the Purple line to Harbourfront.

Sentosa Express is the monorail service that connects Singapore to Sentosa Island. You can take the MRT on the North-East (Purple) line or the Circle line and get down at the Harbourfront Station. From thereon, one can take the Sentosa Express from the 3rd level of the VivoCity Shopping Mall (Lobby L). The Sentosa Express ticket or the Sentosa Pass will cost 4 SGD. The fee covers the Sentosa Express ticket and the Island admission fee.

By Road

Since 2015, the opening of the India-Myanmar-Thailand has made it possible to reach Singapore through road from India. The 6000+ km journey will take about 200 hours  to complete owing to the traffic, road conditions and custom and border checks one has to pass, making the road journey inconvenient. For people who still want to take this route from India, one has to first reach Siliguri in West Bengal, and from thereon one can head towards Thailand from Moreh in Manipur passing through the whole stretch of Myanmar to Myawaddy. After entering Thailand, one can easily head towards Malaysia and reach Singapore and then head to Sentosa.

Alternatively, one can get to Singapore by air and from there, head towards Sentosa Island. Sentosa Island has a well-functioning public transport system. The bus service connects the city of Singapore to Sentosa Island. The bus ticket is all you need to pay, and there is no additional island admission charge. One can take bus no. 123 from central Singapore and from all major MRT stations including Tiong Bahru and Orchard. You can also take buses 65, 80, 93, 188, 855, 10, 30, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145 and 166 to reach the VivoCity.

One can get to Sentosa Island by a taxi, or you can use your private car or hire vehicle. An extra charge is levied on taxis and cars entering the island.

    • Trip to Bali

Most Honest Review!!! We took our Singapore package for our anniversary from fliptrip. But the trip was not planned properly at all, although they were always available on call. On our first day we had Night Safari for which we got ready only to hear from the Singapore agent that Fliptrip had not provided them our itinerary beforehand. So our first day was totally wasted. Also the whole itinerary was changed from the second day, to which we were okay. But again they created problem by not booking our Sentosa Tickets about which we got to know on reaching Sentosa. We had to book tickets by our own for which they refunded us later. But in the process we wasted a lot of time and thus missed some events. Also the refund we received was late . They were always available on phone but couldn’t do much except arguing and shouting. In this trip we lost so much valuable time because of the changing itinerary and their arrogant and careless attitude that we had to write a review. We have been to other countries through Travel Triangle but this was the worst trip and the worst service provider . Really wish we had taken the package from I Need Trip Travels Pvt. Ltd.

Thank you Travel triangle and Shoes On Loose, for make our trip to Singapore and Bali a truly memorable one. The planning and execution was just right. One of the main things that improved the trip was that the drivers/ guides were locals, thereby letting us get the real feel of the places we visited. Travel Triangle / Shoes on loose were very flexible with us in the planning as per what we wanted and not like usual travel advisors which have a fixed itinerary for the guests. The suggestions provided to us during this planning stage were also practical and useful. I would definitely consider Travel triangle / shoes on loose for our next trip. Singapore: Universal studios, Sentosa, Night Safari, Wings of Time Bali: Temples, shopping, local food, Mara safari River lodge, Rafting, Balinese massage Gili Island: Scuba Diving, Oceano resort

    • Trip to Sentosa

The pick up and drop facility needs improvement. Day 1- the coach left without picking us up from the airport and figuring out and seeking help for the coach ended up spending unnecessary time at the airport. At the end I had to book a taxi and reach home. Day 3- the drop was outside the sands sky hotel but the pick up while returning was from gardens by the bay. Though both were near to each other but due to gap in communication we were unable to identify the location for the pick up. As a result, it led to last minute hustle to find the coach! Over all experience was good. But, it could have been a lot better. Sentosa island and universal studios.

    • Trip to Sentosa

INT was good at giving quotes swiftly for all the changes done with respect to no of passengers and date of travel. Flight , hotel booking and local tour agent selection was good. The local tour operator Namho was good and were punctual during pick up and drop on all the days. Also the support on their hotline was good and available at all time. We had to call them for pickup at airport and for night safari tickets. They were quick in coordinating with the drivers and helping out. The following things can be improved: timing for pick up after night safari could be extended since we did not get sufficient time to visit all the event after safari due to heavy crowd. This could ve been taken into consideration for booking the return trip. Also the flyer, boat ride, gardens by the bay and luge ride (sentosa) were not included in the iternary which were really good and we had paid for 3 of them there at singapore. The agent could have communicated regarding the various options and properly planned according to client requirements.

One of the worst co ordination between travel agencies in India ( I need trip ) & Singapore ( NAM HO) , zero customer satisfaction ( not even bother to cater the customer requests). Universal studios & Sentosa travel transport cor ordination was really bad and very rude guide allotted during our Singapore bus tour. I called Ineed trip travel agency from Singapore to India for one of the request for early drop at airport which was totally ignored. Better to book everything by yourself instead of opting for any travel agency. I want to appreciate and thanks Rahul for helping me during my trip planning.
