About Sentosa Island Tour

Sentosa is a resort island based off the coast of Singapore situated just half a kilometer away from the southern coast of the main island of Singapore. The Sentosa island Singapore has a rich variety of flora and fauna native to the island and the resort was built with minimum environmental impact. The island was previously called Pulau Blakang Mati and was renamed to Sentosa in 1972 and was developed as a tourist destination. More than 20 million tourists visit the island every year.

A tour of Sentosa Island includes a visit to the Fort Siloso, a sheltered beach, the Merlion, the Resort World Sentosa and the Universal Studios theme park.

History of Sentosa Island

Its name Sentosa means "peace and tranquility" in the local Malay language, this word is derived from Sanskrit language term Santosha which translates as contentment or satisfaction. British explorers in the 19th century fortified the island as it was a strategic passage into Keppel Harbour. During the Second World War, the island was the site of a battle between Japanese and British forces. Sentosa used to be a British military base and was also used by the Japanese as a prisoner of war camp. In the 1970s, the Singapore government began developing the island as a tourist resort.

The fourth largest island of Singapore, Sentosa has a 70% rainforest cover and over 200 thousand trees were re-planted when the Resort World Sentosa was constructed. The island also boasts of white sand beach and coral reef by its coasts. The huge number of attractions in Sentosa has been the reason for the huge number of tourists visiting the island every year. While Siloso Beach is the island’s most popular beach where there visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as volleyball, canoeing, rollerblading, etc. Palawan Beach is known as the southernmost point of Asia and is a great place to enjoy local food. Finally, the crescent-shaped Tanjong Beach is located at a secluded place and Tanjong Beach Club attractions many visitors.

It is always mildly hot and humidity may vary according to the season. There is always a chance for rain and there are no winter winds or snow. If the tourists want to visit when there are least chances of raining, February, June, and January are the best possible times with February having the lowest chance of rains and November and December having the highest chance of rainfall.

Sentosa is famous among tourists because of its temperate climate and all-year-round accessibility. The warm climate is a dream for vacationing and provides a wonderful holiday experience. All Sentosa attractions are open to visitors all year round and with the sheer number of attractions, it is safe to say that Sentosa is a one of the hottest tourist destinations in Singapore.

An island guide can be bought or downloaded from the official website to get a thorough idea of the attractions and prioritize them according to one’s preferences. Sentosa Island tickets vary based on the place the tourists are visiting. The tickets are moderately priced and one has to pay the entry fees if one brings private or rented vehicles onto the island.

How to Reach Sentosa

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

To take a tour of Sentosa, one must visit the island through Singapore. The closest airport to Sentosa is Changi Airport in Singapore. One can book a flight to Singapore from major airports in India and take the preferred mode of transportation. There are taxis, trains and also a free shuttle bus to Sentosa connecting Changi airport Singapore to Sentosa Island.

By Train

The easiest method is to reach Changi Airport by air and take the MRT to reach the Harbourfront station. To reach Harbourfront one has to take the Green line from Tanah Merah Station. After that one needs to get down at Outram Park and take the Purple line to Harbourfront.

Sentosa Express is the monorail service that connects Singapore to Sentosa Island. You can take the MRT on the North-East (Purple) line or the Circle line and get down at the Harbourfront Station. From thereon, one can take the Sentosa Express from the 3rd level of the VivoCity Shopping Mall (Lobby L). The Sentosa Express ticket or the Sentosa Pass will cost 4 SGD. The fee covers the Sentosa Express ticket and the Island admission fee.

By Road

Since 2015, the opening of the India-Myanmar-Thailand has made it possible to reach Singapore through road from India. The 6000+ km journey will take about 200 hours  to complete owing to the traffic, road conditions and custom and border checks one has to pass, making the road journey inconvenient. For people who still want to take this route from India, one has to first reach Siliguri in West Bengal, and from thereon one can head towards Thailand from Moreh in Manipur passing through the whole stretch of Myanmar to Myawaddy. After entering Thailand, one can easily head towards Malaysia and reach Singapore and then head to Sentosa.

Alternatively, one can get to Singapore by air and from there, head towards Sentosa Island. Sentosa Island has a well-functioning public transport system. The bus service connects the city of Singapore to Sentosa Island. The bus ticket is all you need to pay, and there is no additional island admission charge. One can take bus no. 123 from central Singapore and from all major MRT stations including Tiong Bahru and Orchard. You can also take buses 65, 80, 93, 188, 855, 10, 30, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145 and 166 to reach the VivoCity.

One can get to Sentosa Island by a taxi, or you can use your private car or hire vehicle. An extra charge is levied on taxis and cars entering the island.

    • Trip to Singapore

Hi, we have booked 7 days 6 night package with travel triangle. 2 days Malaysia trip and 5 days Singapore Trip. first let me talk about Malaysia trip. the trip for Malaysia is very sour. Here are some points- 1) we booked hotel seri pacific , it is a 5 star hotel but the staff is quite rude to indians. there was huge queues at reception. finally when we get the chance to get our room. we were told that all rooms with king size bed are booked and we will get room with two single beds. we told them the booking is done like 2 months before and they can't give us the room like that but they didn't listen. you can think we were on our honeymoon trip and accommodated in the room like that . 2) the pickup driver who is supposed to pick us from hotel to drop us at bus point for genting highlands trip came early and when we told him our pickup is mentioned in document at 9 AM he told us you indians don't value time. that was quite racist. 3) we had bus coach booking from malaysia to singapore. the bus supposed to drop us at immigration point at singapore and pickup after immigration is done and then drop us at bus station from where our cab pickup is scheduled. when we gone through with immigration the bus wasn't there. we have to request other bus driver to drop us at bus station , that was frustrating like hell. also when we get to bus station our pickup is already gone and i have to pay 15 SGD for the cab from bus station to hotel. 3) our first day in malaysia is for city tour but as our flight got delayed it was promised to us that after genting highlands tour it will be covered but it wasn't covered. we asked bus driver to drop us at petronus tower and booked cab from there on our own to see city. Now about Singapore trip- 1) Singapore trip is good we get pickups on time but the attractions which were covered are not enough at sentosa. 2) for garden by the bay the pickup was scheuled at 4 PM and pickup came at 4:30 PM and there are also other people to pickup after that we reach at the MBS around 5 the driver told us he will pickup us at 8:15 it was very less time given to see the attraction if the pickup is scheduled in morning around 11 AM then we will be in position to see garden by the bay properly. pls contact me if you need more details on any points described above.

Travel triangle is an amazing site for your travel needs. They provide you with the best of the options of travel partners/ travel agents. This was our 2nd trip with them and 1st international trip. We went with HOLIDAY MATRIX for our Singapore trip. ABHINAV GARG from Holiday Matrix was our point of contact. He understood our requirements and designed our trip tailored accordingly. He was always available and our requirements were catered to without much delays. The best part of going with them is that they take care of everything right from your travel insurance to the forex card or forex currency exchange at one place. We would highly recommend them and would like to plan future trips with them. amazingly planned

    • Trip to Singapore

The whole trip was planned properly by the Aadi travels. The agent was very polite and cooperative and customized our package based on our requirements. Thank you so much for the room upgrade on the cruise. Few points which created chaos during the trip was - 1. Hotel- Since we were pure vegetarians, breakfast was not having a veg menu. So this should be kept in mind while suggesting rooms to the travelers. 2. Communication with the driver was also not proper. Even though we were having 3. The local travel agent who was taking care of our trip in Singapore was also very rude and not cooperative.

All thanks to Deepika Narang from Vstar for being thorough professional and helping me with my travel plans. The rating could have been 4 or 5 star if I had interacted with her since beginning but unfortunately it was someone else who did not act professionally and made me follow up for each and every thing like change in flight due to issues with jet airways and visa. Deepika took up the charge and ensured that all travel documents are made available before the trip. Highly recommended. I will plan next holiday with Vstar if Deepika handles all my future requests.

Very good with travel triangle, there entire team supports and prompt reply was excellence. We are on holidays at Singapore and Malaysia , in Malaysia the local travel agent performance is not so good . In Malaysia waiting time for the driver mostly delay about 30 to 40 minutes . Sunway lagoon trip we arrive arrive at location late because of driver came late and while dropping to hotel driver left on time , he did not wait for us for 20 minutes. We took private car to arrive our hotel. But overall experience with travel triangle was very good. In Singapore:- Santosa Island, universal studios, Garden by the bay, little India , City tour, night safari, Bird park, SEA aquarium In Malaysia: - Sunway lagoon , Gantting , snow world,, petronas tower.
