Kusu Island Singapore is located around 5.6 kilometres to the south of the main island of Singapore. The name of Kusu Island comes from the word ‘kusu’ which means ‘Tortoise Island’ or ‘Turtle Island’ in Hokkien. As per the beliefs, as mentioned in the legends, the word comes from a magical tortoise turned itself into an island so as to protect the lives of two sailors who were shipwrecked, one of them being a Chinese and the other one being a Malay. The rich history of Kusu Island and its attractions have helped it become a center of attention for many tourists coming to Singapore. Kusu Island in Sentosa is also famous for fishing and other activities like swimming and as a picnic place.
Attractions of Kusu Island
Devotees from all around the world climb the 152 stairs leading to the three kramats to worship for wealth, good marriage, health, harmony and even to pray for blessing them with children. Another extremely popular destination on the island for which it is well known is the Chinese Kusu Island temple that goes by the name Do Bo Gong or Tua Pek Kong and Na Tuk Kong. It was established back in the year 1923. Kusu Island Singapore is well-known for its lagoons, pristine beaches, and tranquil settings. There are also provisions for ferry visits from Marina South Pier to see the wishing well and Tortoise Sanctuary.
