How to Reach Beddagana Wetland Park

How far is Beddagana Wetland Park, and where exactly is it?

The park is in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, about 12 km east of Colombo Fort. The main entrance and car park are on Rampart Road (Raja Mawatha), close to the Beddagana junction, postal code 10100. In Google Maps, search "Beddagana Wetland Park" or drop a pin at roughly 6.8905, 79.9066; the gate sits at the end of a short lane off Kotte Road. The reserve covers around 18 hectares of marsh and lake beside the Diyawanna Oya, so the entrance is easy to miss if you are driving fast. Watch for the signboard at the junction.

Getting to Beddagana Wetland Park from Colombo at a glance

By bus

Beddagana is well connected by Colombo's public buses, though you will usually walk the last short stretch to the gate. From Colombo Fort or Pettah, routes 122, 129 and 135 head toward Kotte and drop you within walking distance of the park. Route 177 (Fort to Thalawathugoda) passes the Beddagana junction, where you get off and walk about 10 minutes to the entrance. From Pettah, route 163 also runs to the Kotte area. A one-way ticket costs only around LKR 30 to 50. Buses are frequent but pack out at rush hour, so leave a little extra time.

By taxi and tuk-tuk

A metered taxi is the easiest way to arrive. App-based services such as PickMe and Kangaroo Cabs work well across Colombo; a ride from the Fort area costs roughly LKR 1,500 to 2,500 and takes about 30 to 40 minutes in traffic. For shorter hops, a tuk-tuk from Battaramulla, Rajagiriya or Nugegoda runs about LKR 500 to 800 and takes 10 to 20 minutes. By car

Driving is straightforward. Follow Kotte Road toward the Parliament and look for the Beddagana junction. Turn into the lane on the left immediately after the Beddagana Bo Tree, and the entrance is at the end of that lane. There is a car park right at the gate, so you do not have to hunt for roadside space. Coming from Nugegoda, take Kotte Road via Pagoda; from Colombo Fort, drive through Rajagiriya and Battaramulla.

From Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB)

Sri Lanka's main airport at Katunayake is about 35 km north of the park, usually 40 to 60 minutes by car depending on whether you take the expressway. The simplest option is an airport taxi or a PickMe booked from the arrivals hall.
