Mumbai To Bangkok Distance

Last updated August 2026 · Reviewed by the TravelTriangle Thailand desk. Distances, flight times and fares were checked against airline schedules and OTA listings in August 2026.

Mumbai to Bangkok is about 3,020 km (1,880 miles) in a straight line. The fastest and most practical way to travel is a nonstop flight from Mumbai (BOM) to Bangkok (BKK or DMK), which takes roughly 4 hours 20 minutes and runs around five times a day on Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways and Thai Vietjet, from about Rs 10,000 one way. Mumbai is also one of the few Indian cities with cruise-holiday options to Bangkok by sea. There is no road or train route that works for tourists.

Almost everyone travelling from Mumbai to Bangkok flies, and the flight is short by international standards. This page gives you the real numbers rather than a booking pitch. You will find the exact distance in kilometres, miles and nautical miles, the nonstop flight time, the airlines that fly the route with indicative rupee fares, the cruise option that makes Mumbai unusual, and honest answers on why you cannot drive or take a train to Thailand.

How Far Is Bangkok From Mumbai?

The distance from Mumbai to Bangkok is about 3,020 km (1,880 miles, or roughly 1,630 nautical miles), measured as a great-circle straight line. That is the “aerial distance” flight calculators and airline route maps quote, and it is the figure your flight roughly follows east across the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. For scale, Bangalore to Bangkok is around 2,480 km and Chennai to Bangkok about 2,230 km, so Mumbai sits a little further west and north. If you want the distance to Thailand as a country rather than to Bangkok specifically, our Mumbai to Thailand distance guide covers the wider picture.

How Long Is the Flight From Mumbai to Bangkok?

A nonstop flight takes roughly 4 hours 20 minutes in the air, with airlines scheduling anywhere between about 4 hours 5 minutes and 4 hours 45 minutes. One thing surprises first-time flyers on arrival. Thailand runs 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India, so a plane leaving Mumbai at 1:00 pm IST lands in Bangkok around 6:50 pm local time. If you pick a cheaper one-stop fare through Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, budget 7 to 12 hours in total depending on the layover.

Ways to Travel From Mumbai to Bangkok, at a Glance

Flying is the standard choice, but Mumbai is one of the few Indian cities where a cruise holiday to Bangkok is a genuine alternative. The table below shows how the modes compare.

Mode Route Distance Time Practical for travellers?
Air (nonstop) Mumbai (BOM) to Bangkok (BKK / DMK) ~3,020 km ~4h 20m Yes. Best option, around five daily nonstops
Air (1-stop) via Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore ~3,100 km+ 7 to 12h Only if chasing a cheaper fare
Cruise (sea) Mumbai to Bangkok cruise holidays by sea 10+ days Yes, as a holiday. Seasonal sailings, see cruise packages
Road via Kolkata and Myanmar ~6,800 km driving 6+ days No. Myanmar overland borders are closed to tourists
Rail No direct line to Thailand n/a n/a No. Indian rail does not reach Thailand

Nonstop Airlines and Fares From Mumbai

Mumbai has one of the busiest air links to Bangkok in India, with around five nonstop departures a day. Air India, IndiGo and Thai Airways use Bangkok’s main Suvarnabhumi airport (BKK), Thai Vietjet also serves BKK, and the budget carrier Thai AirAsia lands at Don Mueang (DMK) on the north side of the city. Full-service seats on Air India or Thai Airways cost more but include checked baggage and a meal. The low-cost fares are cheapest if you travel light. Fares swing with season and how early you book, so the figures below are indicative one-way economy ranges from August 2026 airline and OTA listings, not live quotes.

Airline Mumbai airport pair Nonstop time Frequency Typical one-way economy (indicative)
Thai Vietjet Air BOM to BKK ~4h 20m Daily ~Rs 9,800 to Rs 16,000
Thai AirAsia BOM to DMK ~4h 25m Daily ~Rs 9,800 to Rs 16,000
IndiGo BOM to BKK ~4h 20m Daily ~Rs 11,000 to Rs 18,000
Thai Airways BOM to BKK ~4h 25m Daily ~Rs 15,000 to Rs 22,000
Air India BOM to BKK ~4h 20m Daily ~Rs 15,000 to Rs 22,000

The lowest published early-bird fares sit around Rs 9,800 one way on the budget carriers. Book six to eight weeks ahead for those, and if budget matters more than dates, skip the December to February peak and the long Songkran weekend in mid-April. Note that Jet Airways, which once flew this route, has not operated since 2019, so ignore any old listing that still shows it.

Can You Reach Bangkok From Mumbai by Cruise?

This is where Mumbai stands apart from most Indian cities. Alongside flights, there are cruise holidays that sail from Mumbai towards Thailand, usually as longer repositioning or multi-country itineraries rather than a fixed daily ferry, so sailings are seasonal and sell out early. A cruise is a holiday in itself, not a quick transfer, and typically runs well over a week at sea with stops along the way. If the idea appeals, browse current sailings on our Bangkok cruise packages, and our guide to travelling Mumbai to Bangkok by cruise explains what to expect on board. For everyone short on time, flying remains the sensible pick.

Is There a Road or Train Route to Bangkok?

Search results throw up plenty of questions about driving or taking a train, so here is the straight answer. There is no direct train from India to Thailand, because the Indian rail network stops well short of the border. The closest rail-based idea is a train to Kolkata followed by a flight, which is slower and no cheaper than simply flying. A road route exists on paper, roughly 6,800 km through Kolkata and Myanmar, but Myanmar’s overland borders are effectively closed to foreign tourists, so nobody actually drives it. In short, fly, or take a cruise if you have the time.

Which Airport Should You Fly Into, BKK or DMK?

If your flight lands at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), you are about 30 km east of central Bangkok, with the Airport Rail Link and metered taxis into town. Don Mueang (DMK) sits to the north and mainly handles low-cost flights, so it is a little further out but still well served by airport buses and taxis. Either works fine for a first trip; choose on price and schedule. Once your flight is booked, our Mumbai to Bangkok tour packages bundle flights, hotels and transfers, and the full Bangkok travel guide covers where to stay and what to do when you land.

That is the full picture on reaching Bangkok from Mumbai: a 3,020 km hop, a nonstop flight of about four and a half hours, a rare cruise option by sea, and no road or rail worth considering. When you are ready to turn the flight into a trip, browse our Mumbai to Bangkok packages for flight-inclusive deals.

Hey Travel Trail, Dear Yugal I hope this review finds you in high spirits! I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude for organizing the most incredible trip to Thailand. From start to finish, every aspect of the journey was meticulously planned, and I couldn't have asked for a bett

The check-in process was seamless. The accommodation itself was beyond my expectations.I really love the swimming pool and the buffet breakfast. Beyond the hotel, the itinerary you crafted for us was diverse and captivating. From exploring the bustling streets of Bangkok to immersing myself in the natural wonders of Phuket, every destination left an indelible mark on my heart. I will undoubtedly recommend your travel agency to my friends, family, and colleagues who are seeking an extraordinary travel experience. Your attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to customer satisfaction are truly commendable. Once again, thank you for making my Thailand trip so special. Yugal was our travel agent. He was always available from the day we booked the trip till we completed our trip. He was always a call away and was helpful to resolve all the queries. His commitment was commendable. We took 4 night 5 days package. The hotels we stayed were fortunately good. Cab serv
ices were not as much cooperative as expected. I would suggest to include most imp tourist spots of bangkok/pattaya in basic package itself. Like we had a bangkok city tour in our package but reclining budha/watarun temple was not part of it. Better to have it included in basic packages which would improve customer satisfaction. But overall it was a good and hustle free experience.

    Bangkok Travel FAQs

How far is Bangkok from Mumbai?

Mumbai to Bangkok is about 3,020 km (1,880 miles, or roughly 1,630 nautical miles) measured as a straight line, which is the aerial or flight distance. The theoretical driving route through Kolkata and Myanmar is far longer at around 6,800 km, but it is not usable by tourists because the Myanmar overland border is closed to foreign travellers.

How long is the flight from Mumbai to Bangkok?

A nonstop flight takes about 4 hours 20 minutes, with airlines scheduling between roughly 4 hours 5 minutes and 4 hours 45 minutes. A one-stop connection through Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore takes 7 to 12 hours in total, depending on the layover. Remember Thailand is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead, so arrival times look later on the clock.

Which airlines fly nonstop from Mumbai to Bangkok?

Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet Air and Thai AirAsia all fly the route nonstop. Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways and Thai Vietjet use Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK), while Thai AirAsia uses Don Mueang (DMK). Between them there are around five departures every day. Jet Airways no longer operates, so disregard any old listing showing it.

What is the cheapest Mumbai to Bangkok flight fare?

A nonstop low-cost flight on Thai Vietjet, Thai AirAsia or IndiGo is usually the cheapest, with indicative one-way fares starting around ₹9,800 when booked early. Fares are lowest roughly six to eight weeks out and outside the December to February peak and the mid-April Songkran weekend.

Is there a direct flight from Mumbai to Bangkok?

Yes. Mumbai has one of the strongest nonstop links to Bangkok of any Indian city, with around five direct flights a day across Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet and Thai AirAsia. A nonstop takes about 4 hours 20 minutes, so there is rarely any need to take a connecting flight unless it is cheaper.

Can you travel from Mumbai to Bangkok by cruise or sea?

Yes, and this is what makes Mumbai unusual. Cruise holidays sail from Mumbai towards Thailand, usually as longer seasonal or repositioning itineraries rather than a fixed ferry, so they run over a week and need booking well ahead. It is a holiday rather than a transfer. See our Bangkok cruise packages for current sailings.

Is there a train from Mumbai to Bangkok?

No. India's railway network does not connect to Thailand, so there is no direct or connecting train the whole way. The nearest rail-based option is a train to Kolkata and then a flight onward to Bangkok, which is slower and no cheaper than flying directly from Mumbai.

How far is Bangkok from Mumbai by road?

The theoretical driving distance is about 6,800 km through Kolkata and Myanmar, taking six days or more. In practice it is not possible, because Myanmar's overland borders are effectively closed to foreign tourists. There is no viable road trip from Mumbai to Bangkok, which is why travellers fly or, occasionally, cruise.

Do Indians need a visa for Thailand?

Yes, Indian passport holders need to meet Thailand's entry requirement, but the exact rule, whether e-visa or visa on arrival, changes periodically, so confirm the current 2026 position at the official Thai e-Visa portal before you book. For the full arrival picture from your city, see our how to reach Thailand from Bangalore guide.
