Best Time To Visit Bangkok

Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination

The best time to visit Bangkok is November to February, when the northeast monsoon pushes the humidity out and leaves the city cool, dry and sunny. Daytime highs sit around 32 C, evenings drop to a comfortable 22 to 24 C, and it barely rains. That is peak season for a reason. If you would rather trade the crowds for a cheaper trip, the June to October rains are warm and pass in short bursts, and hotel rates fall by roughly a third. The one window most travellers skip is March to May, when the pre-monsoon heat climbs past 35 C and feels closer to 40 C by mid-afternoon.

This guide breaks Bangkok down month by month so you can match the weather to the trip you actually want. There is a full 12-month temperature and rainfall table, a festival calendar with the exact 2026 dates for Songkran and Loy Krathong, and honest calls on the cheapest and the worst times to go.

Best Time to Visit Bangkok: The Quick Verdict

Season Months What to expect Who it suits
Cool and dry (peak) Nov to Feb Highs ~32 C, low humidity, almost no rain, festival season First-timers, families, anyone who wants the best weather
Hot (shoulder) Mar to May 35 C plus, feels like 40 C, Songkran in mid-April Songkran water-festival travellers, poolside and mall trips
Rainy (low) Jun to Oct Warm short downpours, fewest crowds, lowest prices Budget travellers, shoppers, anyone avoiding the crowds

Short on time? Book November to February for the weather, mid-April if you want Songkran, and June to September if the price tag matters more than a dry forecast.

Bangkok Weather Month by Month

Bangkok has three seasons, not four, and the difference between them is real. Here is every month at a glance: average high and low, how wet it gets, and how busy and expensive the city tends to be. Use it to pin down your dates, then read the season notes below for the detail.

Month High / Low (C) Rain (mm) Rainy days Crowds Prices
January 32 / 22 13 1 Peak High
February 33 / 24 20 2 Peak High
March 34 / 26 42 4 Shoulder Mid
April 35 / 27 88 6 Shoulder Mid (Songkran spike)
May 34 / 26 190 14 Low Low
June 33 / 26 152 16 Low Low
July 33 / 25 158 16 Low Low
August 33 / 25 187 17 Low Low
September 32 / 25 320 20 Lowest Lowest
October 32 / 24 280 17 Shoulder Low
November 32 / 23 48 6 Peak High
December 32 / 22 10 1 Peak Highest

Figures are long-run monthly averages, so treat them as the shape of the year rather than a forecast for your exact dates. Two things stand out. December and January are the driest months on the calendar, which is why they carry the highest room rates. September is the wettest by a wide margin, with rain on roughly two days in three, and it is also when you will find the lowest prices of the year.

Bangkok Festivals and Events Calendar

When you visit changes what you see. Bangkok's biggest celebrations are tied to the lunar calendar, so the dates shift a little each year. Here are the four worth planning around, with their 2026 dates.

Festival 2026 dates What happens Worth timing your trip?
Songkran (Thai New Year) April 13 to 15 Citywide water fights, temple visits, the biggest party of the year Yes, if you want the spectacle and do not mind the heat
Loy Krathong Around November 24 to 25 Candlelit baskets floated on the Chao Phraya and canals at the full moon Yes, one of the most beautiful nights to be in the city
Vegetarian Festival Around mid-October Nine days of meat-free street food, loudest in Yaowarat (Chinatown) Great for food travellers, easy to catch if you are already here
Chinese New Year From February 17 Lion dances, lanterns and street feasts across Yaowarat Yes, and it lands inside the good-weather season

Two of these fall squarely in the cool, dry months, which makes November and late January to February the sweet spot if you want great weather and a festival in the same trip. Songkran is the exception: it comes at the peak of the heat, and it is worth the sweat only if the water festival itself is the reason you are going.

Best Time to Visit Bangkok for Every Kind of Trip

For the best weather

November to February. Cool, dry and clear, with the lowest humidity of the year. This is the default answer for most travellers, and it is the right one.

For the lowest prices

June to September. Flights and hotels drop by a third or more against the December peak, and the rain comes in short bursts rather than all day. September is the single cheapest month.

For fewer crowds

May to September. The tour groups thin out, queues at the Grand Palace and Wat Arun shrink, and you get the city closer to how locals live it.

For festivals

Mid-April for Songkran, November for Loy Krathong, and late January or February for Chinese New Year. Time your dates to one of these and the trip becomes a story.

For nightlife and rooftop bars

November to February. Dry evenings and cooler air make the rooftop bars along Silom and Sukhumvit far more enjoyable than a sticky hot-season night.

The Worst Time to Visit Bangkok

There is no truly bad time to visit Bangkok, but two windows are harder than the rest. September and early October are the wettest of the year, with rain on most days and the occasional street flood after a long downpour, so an outdoor-heavy plan can get frustrating. The other is April, the hottest month, when the midday heat and humidity can sap the energy out of temple-hopping. If either weather or crowds is your deciding factor, aim between the two: late October into November gives you drying skies, thinning crowds and prices that have not yet climbed to the December peak.

The Cheapest Time to Visit Bangkok

The cheapest months to visit Bangkok are June to September, the heart of the rainy season. Airfares from India soften, hotels discount to fill rooms, and the mid-year sales turn the malls into bargain territory. September is the low point on both rain and price. If you want a compromise, the shoulder weeks of May and late October give you noticeably lower rates than peak season without the wettest of the weather.

For a rough sense of the whole picture across Thailand, see our Thailand best time to visit guide, which covers the beaches and islands as well as the cities.

How Many Days You Need, and Planning Your Trip

Three to five days is enough for a first trip to Bangkok. That covers the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Wat Pho, a floating market, a Chao Phraya dinner cruise and a proper run at Chatuchak or the night markets, with time left for the malls and rooftop bars. Add two or three more nights if you want to pair the city with Pattaya's beaches, which most Indian itineraries do.

Most Indian travellers book Bangkok as part of a wider Thailand holiday. Our team has planned tens of thousands of these trips, and the most-booked pattern is a Bangkok and Pattaya combination over five to six nights in the November to February window.

When your dates are set, start from our Thailand tour packages, or go straight to a Thailand tour from India or a popular Bangkok and Pattaya family package. Every itinerary is customisable, so you can lock your travel month around the weather and festivals above. For the rest of your planning, our Bangkok how to reach and Bangkok travel guide pages cover flights, visas and getting around.

Climate in Bangkok

Summer Season in Bangkok

From March the heat builds fast, and April is the hottest month of the year. Averages read 35 C, but the real number by mid-afternoon, with the humidity, feels closer to 40 C. Plan the temples and markets for early morning, then hide in an air-conditioned mall, a rooftop bar or a river cruise through the worst of the afternoon. The payoff for braving the heat is Songkran, the Thai New Year water fight that takes over the whole city in mid-April. Silom and Khao San Road turn into open-air water battles for three days. If getting soaked by strangers is your idea of a holiday, this is the one week to come in the hot season.

Monsoon Season in Bangkok

The southwest monsoon does not mean all-day grey. Most rainy-season days deliver a heavy hour or two, often late afternoon, and then clear. Temperatures stay warm at 32 to 33 C. What changes is the crowd and the price: this is when Bangkok is at its emptiest and cheapest, and when the mid-year sales fill the malls. September is the wettest month of all, so if you come then, keep the plan flexible and lean on indoor Bangkok, which is vast. Pack a light rain jacket, wear sandals you do not mind soaking, and you will barely notice the showers.

Winter Season in Bangkok

This is the season Bangkok is built to be visited in. The rains have cleared, the air is dry, and daytime highs of around 32 C drop to genuinely pleasant evenings near 22 to 24 C. It is the only stretch of the year you can walk the Grand Palace grounds or wander Chatuchak market at midday without wilting. It is also festival season: Loy Krathong floats candlelit baskets down the Chao Phraya in November, and Chinese New Year lights up Yaowarat in late January or February. Everyone knows this, so flights and the better hotels sell out early. Book six to eight weeks ahead for December and the New Year window.

Hey Travel Trail, Dear Yugal I hope this review finds you in high spirits! I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude for organizing the most incredible trip to Thailand. From start to finish, every aspect of the journey was meticulously planned, and I couldn't have asked for a bett

The check-in process was seamless. The accommodation itself was beyond my expectations.I really love the swimming pool and the buffet breakfast. Beyond the hotel, the itinerary you crafted for us was diverse and captivating. From exploring the bustling streets of Bangkok to immersing myself in the natural wonders of Phuket, every destination left an indelible mark on my heart. I will undoubtedly recommend your travel agency to my friends, family, and colleagues who are seeking an extraordinary travel experience. Your attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to customer satisfaction are truly commendable. Once again, thank you for making my Thailand trip so special. Shivani's 5 days trip to Bangkok

Yugal was our travel agent. He was always available from the day we booked the trip till we completed our trip. He was always a call away and was helpful to resolve all the queries. His commitment was commendable. We took 4 night 5 days package. The hotels we stayed were fortunately good. Cab serv
ices were not as much cooperative as expected. I would suggest to include most imp tourist spots of bangkok/pattaya in basic package itself. Like we had a bangkok city tour in our package but reclining budha/watarun temple was not part of it. Better to have it included in basic packages which would improve customer satisfaction. But overall it was a good and hustle free experience.

    Bangkok Travel FAQs

What is the best time to visit Bangkok?

November to February is best: warm, dry and comfortable for temple-hopping and markets. March to May is hot, often above 35 C. June to October is the monsoon, with short heavy showers, fewer crowds and lower prices, so it is a fine time to go if you do not mind an afternoon downpour.

Which are the cheapest months to visit Bangkok?

June to October are the cheapest months to visit Bangkok. This is the rainy season, so airfares from India and hotel rates drop, and the mid-year sales fill the malls. September is the single cheapest and wettest month, with rain on most days. Come with a flexible plan and a light rain jacket and you will still see plenty.

Which is the off-season in Bangkok?

The off-season runs from June to October, during the southwest monsoon. Crowds thin out and prices fall, but the rain usually comes in short heavy bursts rather than all day, and temperatures stay warm at 32 to 33 C. It is a good trade if you want a quieter, cheaper city and do not mind planning around the showers.

What is the hottest month in Bangkok?

April is the hottest month in Bangkok. Average highs reach about 35 C, and with the humidity it can feel closer to 40 C by mid-afternoon. Plan outdoor sightseeing for early morning and take shelter in malls, rooftop bars or a river cruise during the peak heat. April is also when Songkran, the Thai New Year water festival, takes over the city.

When is Songkran and Loy Krathong in Bangkok in 2026?

Songkran, the Thai New Year, runs April 13 to 15 in 2026 and brings citywide water fights. Loy Krathong, when candlelit baskets are floated on the river at the full moon, falls around November 24 to 25 in 2026. Songkran lands in the hottest week of the year, while Loy Krathong sits inside the cool, dry season, making November the easier festival to pair with good weather.

Is the monsoon a bad time to visit Bangkok?

Not really. Bangkok's monsoon, from June to October, rarely rains all day. You usually get a heavy hour or two, often in the late afternoon, then it clears. The city has endless indoor options, from malls to museums to markets, so a rainy trip is easy to plan around. You gain the fewest crowds and the lowest prices of the year. Only September, the wettest month, needs a genuinely flexible plan.

Which months are peak season in Bangkok?

Peak season is November to February. The weather is at its best, cool and dry, and it coincides with the year-end holidays and festival season, so demand is high. December and January carry the highest room rates of the year. If you are travelling then, book your flights and hotels well in advance, especially around Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.

How many days in Bangkok are enough?

Three to five days is enough for a first visit to Bangkok. That gives you time for the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Wat Pho, a floating market, a Chao Phraya dinner cruise and the markets, with room for the malls and nightlife. Add two or three nights if you want to combine the city with Pattaya's beaches, which most Thailand itineraries from India do.
