How to Reach Thailand from Mumbai: Flights, Distance, Cost & Visa (2026)

Explore the nature-kissed beauty of Thailand

Rated 4.40/5 ( based on 6533 reviews )

By AirBy RoadBy TrainBy Sea
Mumbai to Thailand4.0 hours---

Fly. That is the short answer, and for almost everyone it is the only sensible one. A nonstop flight from Mumbai to Bangkok covers roughly 3,030 km in about 4 hours 15 minutes, and fares start near Rs 10,000 one-way if you book a few weeks ahead. There is no train that reaches Thailand and no practical road route, so the choice is really which flight, not which mode. This guide lays out the airlines that fly nonstop, what they charge, how to reach the beach cities beyond Bangkok, the cheapest months to go, and the 2026 visa rule for Indian passport holders that changed in July.

Mumbai to Thailand at a Glance

Question Answer
Distance (Mumbai to Bangkok, by air) ~3,030 km
Nonstop flight time ~4 hr 15 min to 4 hr 30 min
Nonstop carriers (BOM to BKK) IndiGo, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet Air, Thai Lion Air
Fare from (one-way, nonstop) from ~Rs 10,000 (round-trip ~Rs 18,000 to 30,000)
Cheapest months to fly February to May
Time difference Thailand is 1 hr 30 min ahead of India (IST)
By train / by road No direct train; road via Myanmar is impractical
Visa for Indians (2026) 30-day visa-free entry, no fee; TDAC arrival card mandatory

How to Reach Thailand From Mumbai by Air

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) has one of India's densest schedules to Thailand, and most of that traffic lands at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi (BKK). A handful of low-cost services use the older Don Mueang (DMK) airport instead, so check which one your ticket names before you book an onward transfer.

Five airlines run nonstop between Mumbai and Bangkok. IndiGo has the widest schedule at about 20 flights a week, Air India runs around 13, and Thai Airways adds roughly 7, with Thai Vietjet Air and Thai Lion Air filling in the low-cost slots. A nonstop takes about 4 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes in the air. If you see a listing that reads close to three hours, that is the clock time on arrival, not the flying time, because Thailand runs 90 minutes ahead of India.

Nonstop Airlines, Mumbai to Bangkok

Airline Nonstop Approx. air time Frequency From (one-way)
IndiGo Yes ~4 hr 20 min ~20 / week from Rs 10,000
Air India Yes ~4 hr 15 min ~13 / week from Rs 14,000
Thai Airways Yes ~4 hr 15 min ~7 / week from Rs 15,000
Thai Vietjet Air Yes ~4 hr 20 min most days from Rs 11,000
Thai Lion Air Yes ~4 hr 30 min select days from Rs 11,000

Fares above are indicative one-way starting prices and move with season and demand. One-stop tickets through Delhi, Kolkata, Colombo or a Gulf hub can undercut a nonstop by a few thousand rupees, but they add four to eight hours, so weigh the saving against a half-day lost to a layover. For a weekend or a short break, the nonstop is almost always worth it.

Onward Flights to Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui

Bangkok is the gateway. If your trip is built around the islands or the north, you reach them from Mumbai on a single itinerary, usually with one stop at Bangkok and a short domestic hop on Thai AirAsia, Thai Vietjet or Bangkok Airways. A few seasonal nonstops to Phuket appear in the winter schedule, so it is worth a quick check on your dates.

Thai city Airport From Mumbai Aerial distance
Bangkok BKK / DMK Nonstop, ~4 hr 15 min ~3,030 km
Phuket HKT Mostly 1-stop via Bangkok (~7 to 9 hr); some seasonal nonstops ~3,600 km
Krabi KBV 1-stop via Bangkok ~3,500 km
Chiang Mai CNX 1-stop via Bangkok ~3,000 km
Koh Samui USM 1-stop via Bangkok (Bangkok Airways) ~3,300 km

For city-by-city routings and station-level detail, see our dedicated guides to reaching Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Krabi from Mumbai.

Mumbai to Thailand by Road, Rail and Sea

By Train

There is no through train. The Indian rail network stops at the eastern border, and there is no continuous track onward through Myanmar into Thailand, so a Mumbai to Thailand train journey is not possible. If a route planner shows you a rail option, it is stitching together separate networks that do not physically connect. Fly instead.

By Road

A drive is possible on paper and impractical in reality. The overland distance runs somewhere between 4,000 and 5,100 km through Myanmar, and the Myanmar leg needs permits, a guide for parts of the route and a fair amount of paperwork, which is why almost no one does it as a casual trip.

If the journey itself is the point, our India to Thailand road trip guide walks through the border crossings and the realistic timeline of three to four days behind the wheel.

By Sea

There is no scheduled passenger ferry between Mumbai and Thailand. What does exist is the occasional cruise itinerary that links Indian ports with Southeast Asia, which is a holiday in itself rather than a way to get there quickly.

If a voyage appeals more than a four-hour flight, read our take on the Mumbai to Bangkok cruise and browse Thailand cruise packages for sailing dates.

Best Time to Fly and the Cheapest Months From Mumbai

Fares from Mumbai are lowest from February to May, once the New Year rush clears and before the summer holidays push demand back up. This lines up neatly with Thailand's dry, sunny stretch from November to April, so the cheaper window is also the nicer weather window for the beaches. The mid-year monsoon, roughly June to October, brings the cheapest hotel rates but wetter days.

Two habits keep the airfare down. Book three to six weeks ahead rather than at the last minute, because same-week nonstop fares from Mumbai climb fast. And avoid the Diwali and Christmas peaks if your dates are flexible, since both send round-trip prices well above the Rs 30,000 mark.

Thailand Visa for Indians in 2026

This changed in July 2026, so ignore older pages that still mention a 60-day stay. On 14 July 2026 the Thai cabinet added India to the 30-day visa-free list. Indian passport holders now enter Thailand for tourism without a visa, without a fee and without any prior application, for stays of up to 30 days.

One step is not optional. Every arrival must file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before landing. It is free, it takes a few minutes, and immigration will ask for it. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, apply for a tourist visa through the Thai e-Visa portal before you travel. Carry proof of onward travel and a hotel booking, since these are occasionally checked at the counter.

A timing note for anyone travelling in the next few weeks: the new 30-day limit becomes law 15 days after it is published in Thailand's Royal Gazette, and anyone who entered before that date keeps the balance of their earlier permitted stay. Either way, a normal Mumbai holiday sits comfortably inside the free allowance.

Planning a Package From Mumbai

If you would rather have the flights, transfers and hotels booked as one trip, every itinerary can start from Mumbai. Thailand packages from Mumbai bundle the return airfare with your stay, and you can compare the full range of Thailand tour packages or read the complete Thailand travel guide for where to go once you land.

"For a first Thailand trip from Mumbai, we book the morning nonstop to Bangkok and add the island hop the next day, so travellers are not rushing a same-day connection with luggage," says our Thailand travel desk.

The fares, flight times and the 2026 visa rule on this page were checked by our team against airline schedules and Thailand's official immigration guidance in July 2026.

Naveen's 14 days trip to Thailand

Overall, we had a very good experience with our travel agent. The trip was planned well, all commitments were fulfilled as promised, and the coordination throughout the journey was smooth. The team was responsive, professional, and ensured that transfers, sightseeing, and bookings were arranged prop
erly, making the trip hassle-free. The only major disappointment was the hotel selected in Pattaya. The rooms were quite compact, we encountered cockroaches in the room, and the towels provided were not up to the expected standard. This part of the experience could have been much better. The itinerary was well designed overall; however, for some outdoor attractions, scheduling visits during the evening would have been preferable, especially during the summer season, to avoid the intense daytime heat and make sightseeing more comfortable. Despite these points, we appreciate the effort and support provided by the travel agent. The trip was enjoyable, and with a little more attention to hotel selection and timing of certain activities, the experience could have been excellent.

I recently completed my Thailand trip with Travelopedia, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. made the trip completely stress-free for us.

Vrushabh's 7 days trip to Thailand

We recently booked an 11-day, 10-night land package to Thailand with Travtree Holidays, covering Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi. Traveling with a 2-year-old can be challenging, but the overall experience was smooth and well-coordinated. Our itinerary was packed with great activities. In Bangkok, Safa
ri World was a huge hit with our little one, and the temple tours were beautiful. The Krabi leg was fantastic—the 7 Island Tour and the Jungle Tour were standouts. In Phuket, the Phi Phi Island tour and the Old City tour were both well-managed and enjoyable. Since we only opted for the land package and airport transfers, we relied heavily on their punctuality. The transfers were seamless, which is a massive relief when you’re hauling luggage and a toddler! The only disappointment was the Elephant Sanctuary tour. It felt very rushed, lasting only about an hour and a half, which didn't quite meet our expectations compared to the quality of the other excursions. Overall, we had a wonderful family holiday. Travtree Holidays provided great service and reliable transport. Highly recommended for families looking for a well-organized Thailand experience!

Lizandra's 5 days trip to Thailand

We recently booked our family trip to Thailand with Travtree Holidays, and it turned out to be an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The entire itinerary was very well organized, making the trip smooth and stress-free—especially important when traveling with young children (our ki
ds are 2 and 5 years old). All pick-ups were perfectly on time, and the vehicles provided were clean, comfortable, and spacious, which made commuting easy and relaxing for the whole family. The hotels arranged for us were excellent—family-friendly, comfortable, and conveniently located. Everything was thoughtfully planned, allowing us to enjoy each destination without any hassle. A special mention goes to our visits to Siam Ocean World (sea life) and Safari World & Marine Park. Both experiences were incredibly impressive and became the highlight of our trip. Siam Water World was fantastic for the kids, with exciting views of the sea creatures penguins etc that they thoroughly enjoyed. Safari World was equally amazing—the safari drive and shows were captivating, and seeing the animals up close was a memorable experience for both adults and children. Overall, Travtree Holidays ensured a seamless, enjoyable, and perfectly managed vacation for our family. We truly appreciate their professionalism and attention to detail and would highly recommend them to anyone planning a trip to Thailand—especially families traveling with young kids.

    Thailand Travel FAQs

What is the fastest way to get from Mumbai to Thailand?

A nonstop flight to Bangkok. It covers about 3,030 km in roughly 4 hours 15 minutes, and IndiGo, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet Air and Thai Lion Air all fly the route direct from Mumbai. Every other option, whether road or a one-stop connection, adds hours for no real benefit on a short trip.

What is the cheapest way to get from Mumbai to Thailand?

The cheapest fares are nonstop or one-stop economy tickets booked three to six weeks ahead, from around Rs 10,000 one-way. February to May is the cheapest stretch of the year. One-stop routings through Delhi, Kolkata or a Gulf hub can shave a little more off the fare, at the cost of a longer journey.

How far is it from Mumbai to Thailand?

About 3,030 km by air from Mumbai to Bangkok, which is the point most people mean by Thailand. Phuket is a little farther at roughly 3,600 km, Krabi around 3,500 km, and Chiang Mai in the north is closer to 3,000 km. By road through Myanmar the distance stretches to 4,000 to 5,100 km.

How long does it take to fly from Mumbai to Bangkok?

A nonstop flight takes about 4 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes in the air. Listings that show close to three hours are quoting the arrival clock time, not the flying time, because Thailand is 90 minutes ahead of India. One-stop tickets typically run 7 to 10 hours door to door depending on the layover.

Are there direct flights from Mumbai to Thailand?

Yes. Bangkok has multiple daily nonstops from Mumbai on IndiGo, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet Air and Thai Lion Air. The islands and the north, such as Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui, are usually reached with one stop at Bangkok, though a few seasonal nonstops to Phuket appear in the winter schedule.

Which airlines fly nonstop from Mumbai to Bangkok?

Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet Air and Thai AirAsia all fly the route nonstop. Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways and Thai Vietjet use Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK), while Thai AirAsia uses Don Mueang (DMK). Between them there are around five departures every day. Jet Airways no longer operates, so disregard any old listing showing it.

What is the time difference between Mumbai and Thailand?

Thailand is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India. When it is 12 noon in Mumbai, it is 1:30 pm in Bangkok. The gap is small enough that jet lag is rarely an issue, but it is why a nonstop that leaves Mumbai mid-morning lands in Bangkok in the early evening rather than mid-afternoon.

Can I travel from Mumbai to Thailand by train or road?

There is no direct train, because the Indian and Southeast Asian rail networks do not connect through Myanmar. A road journey is technically possible via Myanmar but impractical, with 4,000 to 5,100 km of driving, border permits and a three to four day timeline. For a holiday, flying is the only realistic choice.

Do Indians need a visa for Thailand in 2026?

Yes. Since 19 May 2026 the 60-day visa-free scheme has ended. Indians now need either a Visa on Arrival (15 days, THB 2,000, cash) or a tourist e-Visa (60 days, applied for online). Everyone must also complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours of arrival.
