How To Reach Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (Chiang Mai)

By Road: If you opt for roadways, then either you can hire a taxi to Doi Suthep, or drive yourself to the Chiang Mai Zoo. Though, the route is quite straight, the road has many curves. Hence, if you have minimal motorbike riding experience, then it is recommended to book a taxi. However, if you hold an international drivers license, then get on to enjoy the ride until the glimpses of the flags and the crowds strike your eyes.

By Songthaew: You may also choose to get on a songthaew, which is one of the most popular mediums to reach the Wat Phra Doi Suthep. You may take songthaews from Huay Kaew Road near the zoo, and get to the temple. It costs around 40 Baht per person. Normally, drivers wait for 8 to 10 people before heading towards the journey, hence if you are traveling in a group, then you may charter songthaews for your tribe from anywhere in the city. The cost of one-way ride can be around 300 Baht or 500 Baht for a two-way ride.

Hiking: Apart from hiring a taxi or a songthaew, you may also choose to hike to the mountain via Suthep Road. As you reach the base of the temple while following the road to the trail head, you may choose to climb its 309 steps, or book a cable car to get to the temple. The cable car costs around 20 Baht for locals and 50 Baht for foreigners.
