Best Tourist Places To Explore In Bora Bora
1. Matira Beach
What’s Special: Coral reefs
Timings: 24/7
Transportation Option: Rented vehicle, ferry
Matira Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in French Polynesia and the most-explored spot in Bora Bora packages. With the white sand and crystal clear water, it is the only public beach in Bora Bora. The beach is ideal for snorkeling, as the water has an abundance of coral reefs. One can witness the mesmerizing view of the sunset from here. To satiate your hunger pangs, numerous eateries and shops line the beach.
2. Mount Otemanu
What’s Special: Scenic views
Timings: sunrise to sunset
Transportation Option: Ferry, jetski, hike
Located at the center of Bora Bora and covered in green leaves, Mount Otemanu is one of the two peaks of an extinct volcano. It is a giant mountain situated in the middle of Bora Bora, which provides breathtaking views of the neighboring locations. You can hike up the mountain under the supervision of a guide. But it is impossible to hike to the peak of the volcano due to sharp verticals and unsteady rocks. Reaching halfway or the shoulder region, one can see a huge cave known as Anau Cave, the highest point for hikers. Those not willing to hike can consider a boat tour around the mountain for a closer look. Adventure enthusiasts can keep a day reserved to explore Mount Otemanu in their Bora Bora tour package.
3. Turtle Center Project
What’s Special: Intriguing Sea Turtles
Timings: 9 am to 3:30 pm
Transportation Option: Ferry, hired vehicle
Witness Bora Bora’s Sea Turtles at the Turtle Center Project, a non-profit turtle sanctuary with the Bora Bora island holiday packages. Founded in 2000, it is a haven for turtles, who are brought here after getting sick or injured, to rehabilitate and go back into the wild waters. Visitors get to learn about the turtles through marine biologists and can also volunteer to clean algae and bacteria built up on sea turtles’ shells. The sanctuary also acts as a refuge for other creatures like eels, sea cucumbers, pufferfish, and more.
4. Mount Pahia
What’s Special: Breathtaking views
Timings: sunrise to sunset
Transportation Option: Ferry, jetski, hike
Mount Pahia is the other peak of an extinct volcano, smaller than Mount Otemanu. It is also known as Mount Otemanu’s twin peak and shorter sibling. One can hike up the mountain under the supervision of a guide. The difficulty level in the hike is the same as Mount Otemanu, as there are a plethora of sections of thick jungle. A cave resides high up the mountain, known as the Bird Cave, where parakeets nest. Like its big brother, Mount Pahia can also be explored via a boat tour or jet ski.
5. Vaitape
What’s Special: Cuisine and souvenirs
Timings: 24/7
Transportation Option: Taxi, shuttle bus, ferry
Bora Bora’s largest and most-populated town, Vaitape, is famous for its Tahitian pearls. The town’s art galleries exhibit various crafts for you to shop from. Drool-worthy cuisines are available at stalls and restaurants to satiate your hunger. The local shops of Vaitape are the best place to buy souvenirs for your loved ones. Bora Bora vacation packages include a visit to Vaitape.
