How to Reach

By Air

The most convenient way to reach Galle from India is by taking a direct flight from one of the major cities to either Colombo or other two nearby airports. While flights to Colombo are available from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, you can also take a flight to Diyawanna airport from Chennai and Bengaluru. After reaching Colombo airport, you can take a convenient taxi to reach Galle in around 3 hours.

Best Time to Visit

Located on the south-western tip of Sri Lanka, Galle experiences tropical climate and moderate temperatures throughout the year ranging between 23 and 31 degrees Celsius. While it is a year round destination, December to April are considered the best months to book your Galle packages.

Summers

Galle experiences hot and dry weather during the summer months from December to February, with temperature hovering between 29-31 degrees. With plenty of sunshine and occasional rainfall, it is a good time to explore the outdoors. The months of February-April are considered the best for visiting this lovely coastal town as there is hardly any rainfall.

Monsoons

Japanese Peace Pagoda

Nestled in the middle of rainforests between Galle fort and Unawatuna, this symbol of peace is a sanctuary of serenity that also offers panoramic views of the bay and surrounding jungles. It is one of the three Budhhist stupas in Sri Lanka and was built with the help of Japanese monks.

Flag Rock Bastion

This Portuguese bastion atop Flag Rock at the far end of Galle Fort was earlier used for signalling ships arriving at the shore, but is popular now for its marvelous sunset views and tranquil setting.
