Suleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul (Turkey)

A tribute to Suleiman- the Magnificent, Suleymaniye Mosque is one of the most famous mosques of Istanbul. Built in between 1550- 1557, its construction took almost 8 years; however, the architectural design of Suleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul is still worthy of appraisal. Designed by the architect Mimar Sinan, the mosque attracts lots of tourists from all around the world due to its splendid beauty.

History of Suleymaniye Mosque

The beautiful Iznik tiles used in the carvings of the mosque depict the history of Suleymaniye Mosque. The mosque has even suffered fire and destruction. The fire on the 1660 had destroyed the mosque completely, and then it was later reconstructed by Sultan Mehmed 4. There had even been destruction due to wars. The mosque had suffered great destruction during the world war when the mosque was used for keeping explosives and had caught fire. Most of the carvings and pillars had been destroyed and only a few originals can be viewed now. The mosque was completely reconstructed and renovated in 1956.

Architecture of Suleymaniye Mosque

Located on one of the seven hills of Istanbul, the Suleymaniye Mosque proves to be a landmark for the city and symbolizes the Ottoman rule as it is an Ottoman imperial mosque.

The mosque has 4 minarets with 10 balconies in each. Even the number of minarets and balconies symbolizes that Sultan Suleiman was the fourth of the Osmanh rulers and the 10th sultan after the empire was fully established. Its beautiful gardens have some of the most beautiful flowers and trees which represent the history of the place.

Amazing Facts about Suleymaniye Mosque

The mosque houses a religious school, hospital, soup kitchen, bazaar, library, caravanserai, and numerous tombs.

Crowning one of the seven hills of Istanbul, Suleymaniye Mosque is a landmark for the entire city.

The dome of the mosque is as large as the one crowns the Byzantine basilica.

Once occupied by Mimar Sinan, one of its houses of Ottoman era has now been turned into a cafe.

Everything was very well arranged and turkey was beautiful. A lot of things are over hyped in Turkey and people need to be careful before spending money as they should get the same thing for a much better price maybe 500 Mt's away. I really liked the food although my wife did not as it was not spicy. Hotel rooms were cosy but small. People were nice to talk to and helpful however language was a bit of a problem. It would have been awesome if we had gotten the hot air balloon ride but unfortunately we were not that lucky. Other tourists told us that was the only awesome part in cappadocia. All in all, a very good trip without any hassle.

The arrangements through SVS travels was very good and according to our tastes. The domestic flight and hotel bookings and time management by drivers was very good. It was a memorable trip for us. The agent customised the quote very well. Only thing was one of the domestic flight timings were miscommunicated to us and the local drivers. But they responded quickly and resolved when told. Overall the tour package was truely worth.

My overall experience of Turkey was awesome..njoyed the Bday special trip. The hotels we're good quite still well connected with the market place..in Istanbul it was zeynep sultan which was like 100 to 400 mt away from all the old city attractions like hagia Sofia, blue mosque, spice Bazaar etc. and market place is close by lots of good places to eat. In Cappadocia it was heaven cave which was again a good choice I felt the staff was very polite breakfast variety was okay but again close to market place. In Kusadasi it was efe boutique hotel which I liked a lot with small balcony with water front view.. close to market again yet maintain the pease. The tour suggested by Abhishek from White rabbit was excellent however I was traveling with kid so had to skip some tour cos of his comfort.. only struggle a bit on the domestic flight time..the tour most of the time ended between 3-5 pm but the flight time was somewhere between 8:30 to 9:30 so by the time you reach the destination it's too late..and you had to be out entire day.. check out from hotel in morning then tour and wait on airport (some time connecting flights)and transfer to your new hotel..it's too tiring.except the domestic flight time everything was well planned and the follow up Abhishek did not even before the trip while we were on the trip was commendable haven't seen it earlier in any of my trips. would definitely recommend him. Thank you Abhishek Bosphorus Cruise, spice bazaar shopping, Cappadocia hot air balloon, pamukkale.

I had got my flights, hotels & cab transfers booked from the PickYourTrail team. The hotels in Istanbul were the best comparing the rest of the trip's hotels. The experience in Antalya with the hotel & cabs were quite disappointing. The hotel's location was good but not the services offered in the hotel/room. We had issue with the cabs both ways - while dropping and picking up from the hotel. So I think pickyourtrail needs to work on their supppliers in Antalya bit more. Cabd and hotels in Istanbul & Cappadocia were great. Although, I wouldnt recommend the hotel we stayed in Goreme to anyone because the staff was really cold and not welcoming over there. One thing I liked out PickYourTrail was that they were happy to help everytime we needed them. They're quite dedicated to their customers and their customer happiness team (team which helps you while you''re on your vacation) was definitely very helpful and polite.

Excellent trip with very nice coordination: We went with our family. Me and my wife and a little 2 years old kid. we were very happy the way it has been organised and we have been given all the details in advance. when we arrived in turkey Cappadocia we were really amazed by looking at the hotel and hotel room. Next day sightseeing was also very nice and it was done in a very comfortable bus coach. we spent in kapadokya three days and the guide, who was with us for this trip was extremely polite and very informative. after kapadokya we went to Izmir and it was also a very smooth pick up at the middle of the night. someone was waiting for us in the airport who drove to our hotel and helped us a lot in his midnight. we spent about three days in Kusadasi and the tour operator here was also excellent. the last day was in Pamukkale lake, the trip was excellent and very well-managed however the local tour operator was not very efficient in terms of time management. We highly recommend this tour operator for your journey next time. Abhishek took care of your journey and all the rest. We are really happy the way it was overall managed.

The concept of 3-star/4-Star hotel is totally different from what is visualised in India. We were in for a shock when we saw the room size(8ft*8ft) in a 3/4 Star hotels The hotels have no facilities like coffee shops or a restaurants. The travel agents in India should make it clear to the prospective travellers so the people don't get shocked . It was a very well organized trip. Every place we visited the tourists guides were very pleasant and well informed. We really enjoyed the. Trip
