With 6 minarets and 260 windows, decorated with handmade ceramic Iznik tiles that were made by the laborers; adds charm to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

History of Blue Mosque

Now a popular tourist attraction, Blue Mosque was built during the regime of Ahmed I somewhere between 1609 and 1616. The story goes that the emperor asked the laborers to make gold minarets but it was misheard that the emperor asked to make 6 minarets due to which the mosque is having 6 minarets.

One of the most peculiar things about this mosque is that it consists of six beautiful minarets, however, mosques usually have only two or four minarets. The story behind this is considered to be a misunderstanding between the Sultan and the architect. It is said that the Sultan instructed the architect to build altin minarets, i.e., gold minarets, however, the architect mistook it for alti minarets, i.e., six minarets. Moreover, its blue interior decor is also a point of amazement. There is no doubt that this mosque is one of the most bewitching wonders of Turkish history.
