History of New York
New York City has a rich historical past. The city was called the Duke of York in the year 1664. It was done so in honor of the duke, King James II of England. The city was created during the time of the Wisconsin glaciation thousands of years ago. This caused the creation of the central Manhattan area, Long Island, and Staten Island. There was a time in the city before colonialism took over when the Native Americans used to inhabit the area. The Dutch took over the city in the year 1624. After much resistance, the Dutch gave in and the English took over in 1664. Later, the American Revolution came and the Americans lost the war against the Britishers. A peaceful treaty happened later and New York slowly and steadily found its place in the structure of the country. Ever since, a lot has happened and evolved in the city. It is rightly said that the city has gone through a lot and there is so much history hiding into the deep crevices of its fragments.
